Drained and removed the tank, removed the strainer, filter, pump and accumulator and am replacing all of these components. Well, strainer is still in the tank cause I'm waiting for my 1/2" breaker bar. Hoping for a clean tank but expecting the worst.

After it's all said and done, do I need to do anything besides fill the tank and start the car? I dunno if air in the fuel lines would cause any problems.

Strainer takes a 46mm socket...guessing you have one or the SAE equivalent? Also (at least on mine) the strainer has an o ring. Suggest replacing it with a new one. Are you replacing all your rubber fuel hoses?

Geez....if you are already doing all that renewal...then why not change the hoses?

And once you are done and have fuel in the tank......just cycle your ignition key on and off a bunch of times...with the fuel cap OFF.

This will help purge the air.....you can actually hear the bubbling in the tank.

That's what I figured, but wasn't sure, thanks!

I don't know where to get the hoses, they all appear to be different sizes...

They seem fine, I dunno. No cracks or leaks, and the inside of the rubber lines are clean and don't appear to be disintegrating or anything. Just doesn't seem necessary, but I'm open to hearing why this could be a "bad" idea.

The unthinkable happened. I got the fuel sensor and strainer out without the breaker bar, and my tank is completely rust free. Almost can't believe it.

However this is some white sediment, and other dirt/junk in there. I assume from age and having never changed the strainer?

What's the best way to clean? Hose out the inside and let it drain from the spout? Would definitely NOT want any water stuck in the tank.

With this lucky find I think I may just order some new hoses, hah. One less thing to worry about now.
