I am test-driving an 84 300SD and I am really thinking about trading my 71 Skylark for it. They are both beautiful cars, inside and out.
Anyway, the Benz drives wonderfully, but when I start to drive, it shifts from 1st to 2nd immediately then shifts quite hard into 3rd...almost slams into 3rd like an old posi-trak Z28. All else seems very nice and smooth.
What should I be concerned about here?

I've had my 84SD for just over a year now and mine does have the heavy shifting you describe. I've only done minor maintenance so far with over 200,000 mi and it's been a good car to me but I've heard that there are some adjustments possible to take care of the heavy shifting (haven't fully researched it yet). By the way, keep the Skylark buy the SD and have two classics to drive. Later.

Thanks for the response. I love my Skylark and it is worth considerably more monetarily, but the Benz is also a peach and it won't sit in the garage undriven since it doesn't get only 12 miles per gallon like the Skylark. Also, is that your 300SD in the signature? If so, please send me some pics. It is the same color as mine and I am in the market for wheels and clear markers. I would love to see how it would look.

Kojack, I got pics on some of the threads I started (E500 wheels on my SD, body colored corners) those are a couple. Later.
