Do you want to just remove the shift lever or do you have to get into the box? If you just want the shift lever out you just have to push down and turn and it will come out!

All the manuals show the early 90s shift knob to be a bayonet mount, the instructions were to push down firmly and twist the knob much like a light bulb. I have also heard about people forcing it and then breaking the casting, I tried mine once and decided it was not worth it. You need to get the adapter and then a threaded shift lever, not worth it.
