hello

for the 1999 s420, we have the regulator rivets removed, and the unit is ready to be removed, save for some difficulty of getting the glass off the regulator track...

is there a clip that needs to be undone...? the glass is approx. six inches open...and, it will not go up or down at this point...unable to 'lift' the glass up and off the track...

thank you...

Is there any way you can force it all the way down? esp if youre replacing the regulator. When i replaced both my rear ones you needed to push the window allll the way down, then pull off a little plastic clip retainer that stops the window from sliding off the rail (one of my windows didnt have this clip. Then once at the very bottom, you can angle the window out of the rail - i dont know if you can remove the window off the regulator unless the window is at the bottom.

Hope this helps!

Sorry to add to the above (can't figure out how to edit comment..) you don't slide the window 'up and out', but you need to slide it horizontally off the regulator rail. If you can see where the window sits on the regular you'll see what I mean.

Yes there is a small plastic sleeve you need to unclip so the regulator can slide out from the window rail .Refer to Picture below ,pull that black clip down on one edge ,then you will see yourself how it's done, easy .

Note; This picture has uploaded sideways , rotate to the right .

To move the Regulator by hand , you need to remove the windows electric motor 1st ( 3 Hexagonal screws) ,then you can slide it to any position you like , make sure all rivets are out .

thank you Merc and Hallivand--we did locate the clip, and the new unit is on the way...

curious thing, though: since receiving the S420 three years ago, we've replaced the regulator apprx. once a year--but, al three times it was the right rear unit, which, in fact, does not get nearly the use of, say, the front passenger...

once the regulator was removed, we tried sliding the window up and down in the track a few times--to determine if it was binding in the tracks (white plastic?)...

it does seem a bit 'stiff' near the lower end, but there may be another issue causing the RR regulator syndrome...

we may try a lubricant on the track...

thanks again, Mate!

Look at the sides of the Window rail channel not the window regulators railings (where the window actually slides up & down at ), on the sides inside the rails you see some kind of inner protection that helps the glass slide up & down , sometimes that protection when it gets wet or disturbed ,specially down the bottom, it blocks the windows up/down movement .
By slightly adjusting the sides holding nuts /screws , that should fix that problem , Don't over adjust it .
Avoid any kind of oiling or grease on those railings , only ad some lube onto the regulators rails , not to much as in time dust will get to it .

Once you found the adjustment screws , only slide the rail ( one at a time) by millimeters not centimeters , to loose & that results the window not perfectly closing on the top round curve ,which then results wind noise entering while driving , so annoying . If you adjust them to much like a tight fit ,the window will close slowly resulting with the windows electric motor eventually seizing to function .
Look at the inner railings glass protection on the far sides 1st ,clean them out of the dirt that has accumulated over the years .
My guess is that your problem is there for the windows to close either to slow & or brake the regulator so quickly .

TIP: If you do adjust the side rails , make sure you mark the original position ,this way you wont go Nuts later if you need to revert back if all should fail .
