I hope someone can assist with these queries. Can anyone tell me what the sensor with the black cable is for? Just behind the oil filter.

Where does it connect to? It is present on some m117 motors but not all.
Thanks in advance.

I believe you are showing the Oil Level Sensor wiring connection.

The stamped steel oil pan will need to be removed to address this, if an issue...

There is a very, very thin O-ring that seals the sensor to the surrounding engine block.. Having had that O-ring failure/external oil leak, I replaced the whole thing, but that may not be totally necessary, you know?

My 20/20 hindsight would have saved me the sensor price, adjusted by a tiny O-Ring retail price... A good bite into a significant meal with my Honey, for example....

Thanks MBL. The car does not have a sensor "receiver/display" for this as the original motor was a M116 380 motor. I guess I will leave that alone and rely on the good old dipstick to check the oil level....
