Selling my squirted 450SLC

Hey guys i have finally finished rewiring my Megasquirt conversion so its all pretty and running great..... Now i have posted it as for sale on carsales.com.au to start/fund my next project.

The problem i have is i have posted it with a fairly standard price for a SLC in Australia and would like to know if you knowledgeable people from BW think that a upgraded ECU+Fuel+spark system is worth more then a standard SLC or if it drops the value?

PS: the next project is putting a M113 into a SLC and doing wheel flairs with mega wide wheels like the SLC bitumen racer and upgrading the interior, which indecently the website SLC Racing : manufacturer of Mercedes SLC 500 Rally Cars has put ALOT more pics of the racer and a Safari version one their site. I gave up on the M117 due to how hard it would be to fit a better gearbox to it, the 5speed on the M113s is ideal for what i want :)

Unless you sell it another car guy who likes to tinker, it'll usually lower the price. Anything aftermarket like that does. I replaced the seats in my Toyota with seats out of a Lexus. They're much more comfortable seats, they're leather, they match the car, they're power, and they reduced the resale price of my Toyota by about $3K. That's just how it works.

If it idles as smooth as you've described, though, it might be a break-even. Especially if the potential buyer has test driven others while searching. Just play up that point, and downplay the scary "this isn't factory and a standard MB shop won't know how to work on it" angle.
I think it should raise the value of the car. You converted it from an antiquaited EFI system to a modern comperter controlled system. You will want to find someone who knows these cars, just tell potential buyers the system improves fuel economy and performance and eliminates many expensive factory parts. All the hard work has been done. The fact you can do the tuning at home is another selling point. If you do upgrade I'd always keep the old parts just in case.

Good luck selling the thing and on your next project!
this a hard situation its very independent thing and value to , this is surely a good set up and things are running pretty good i guess LOL and i know i did my self rahter often to my and others SLC the fact is that they run MUCH better and cleaner smoother everything the D-jet couldnt do , and K-jet as well so the guy who knows and apreciate it he ore she pays the extra bucks but those who thinks like aah shit it has to be stock no matter if it smokes like a bus from 1935 and stinks like it to. then its the wrong buyer. So whatever you do on a car how much HP you got and so on it has to be the right buyer allways.
All very true, i think i ll leave the price as i have it atm until i get a result from the dyno tune. Then i can say how much better it is with facts rather then seat of the pants :)
And this even more true , ignition timing and tuning as well makes hard just to drive and tune on the road at the same time , means you cant get the perfect timing just by driving on the road even the peak ignition advance i have seen ignition timing peaks at 48 degrees on a 300E M103 light load conditions and 38.9 fullpower N/A from 3500-6400RPM and i wonder how much advance we can use on a stock 450 engine eather 8.0 ore 8.8 ratio that i must check next time i tune for eco driving. all those numbers is thanks to a chassie dyno run .
do you have anything posted online documenting what you did? what to share the tuning maps?

Make a nice how-to for us. :-D
Oughtsix already did that pretty much in terms of getting the car running on MSII, the only thing i did was convert it to coil pack sparks which doesnt really boost performance that much. Mercedes 450slc with MegaSquirt fuel injection is oughtsixs page.

The coils i used were just some generic coil packs from a Isuzu Rodeo only cause we dont have many standard cars in Australia that use coil packs in 4 tower lots. Wiring is all explained on the Megasquirt page, but i would recommend you get the Megasquirt prebuilt with the extra items you need.
Awesome.

I just came back to the US after living in Brisbane for six months. Very nice!

I've physically built a MS before for a friend who used it on his Miata with ITBs. Pretty cool, but i wasn't there for any of the tuning. This 450SL isn't mine, but if it was i'd be tempted to screw with it.
only document is the software from Autronic i got in my pc right now . i run on my 560 engine light throttle cruising conditions up to 45 degrees timing .
yeah thats why i want to go to a dyno tuning shop, mainly to get help with the spark advance settings, the fuel side i things i understand, but the sparks leave me for dead so i recon that my car will get some major improvements from been dyno tuned specially under light cruising.
Atm the car is actually in the shop getting the rear main seal replaced and the transmission serviced for a roadworthy certificate, then i am off to a tuning shop to get it running 100% and find out some actual figures on power/torque :)

I'm looking forward to that... =]
So am i :) But i will still be selling it after doing all this, i really want a proper gearbox, having only 3speeds suck and the 4speeds that bolt on arn't much better either. All i have to do now is find another wrecked 55 amg, hopefully i can get a whole car still.
I don't know how honest you aussies are but look for a theft recovery, around here they just total out the cars and either salvage or part them once they are stolen.

Good luck at the dyno shop and getting your MOT or whatever you folks call it.

Honest? (European) Australia was created as a penal colony! Hahahaha!

We're as honest as the next bunch though!

Only after the Brits got themselves kicked out of the colonies and lost them as a dumping ground....

No, that is more about our unusual sexual fetishes.
guh, i hate it when you take a car in for a simple fix up and the shop rings you half way thru and tells you the car needs major surgery too :(

Both front and rear seals of my gearbox along with my vacume controler are all leaking, both my front calipers need fixing due to the left one been leaking and something else went wrong, i ll have a quote this afternoon for all the work :(
That sucks, my car started leaking tranny fluid recently and I feel about in the same predicament, but I can keep it registered here. Good luck!
