My neighbor has a 1971 SEL300 and can't seem to keep the front airbags up. We have checked all the fittings, replaced the o-rings in the valve assy's and the pump. Where do you folks in the states buy replacement bags and such?

At the risk of upsetting the sponsors, you can also buy rebuilt valve assemblies from Star Motors.http://www.300sel.com/[url] Neil, the boss, has a good guide you can download to run a quick check on your air suspension. I'll bet you that the front valves are leaking from the part where the shaft goes in.It's common and can be very hard to track down.replacing the valves will cure it,the bags only need to be changed when they either burst,or if the cracks are starting to leak. They ALL have cracks,so don't worry about it.

Keep the alcohol reservoir full will hepl a lot of air suspension problems. They are easy to change if one is leaking.

All us W112 and W109 owners refer to the "bellows" as airbags.[:)]It's not a notorius suspension system,it's dum owners who cannot afford to maintain their classic merc that are "notorius".
Have a look under a MayBAch sometime or the new mercedes (AMG) station wagons, what do you see? Air suspension, not too far removed from the 109's system.
Air suspended tour coaches had, until recently the same system, using the same "airbags" that the W112/W100 amd W109 use.
If you get the chance to drive a good 3.5 or 6.3 ,take the opputunity to enjoy cars that will still out handle most modern cars.[8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D]
