It looks like a K car. If you want an SEC, go buy an SEC.
What is a "K" car?? The hottest w126 I hav ever seen in my life, exterior wise, had a sec front end conversion, and it looks GORGEOUS!! The conversion does look strange with the front bumper they used. I can't tell if they switched to the SEC front bumper also. I guess will just have to agree to disagree on this matter!! And I will post pics of the car I am referring too, and trust me, you will be amazed too!! Brabus tuned too, how many of those do you see??

It just doesn't look right to me. I don't like it. SEC front bumpers on a sedan W126 are ok with me, but the whole front deal with the hood and all, no thanks.[:(]

I'm with you. SEC conversions on sedans look silly, imo.

oh my god!!! i feel SO old!!! [:0]

anyway, here is a hint from that famous barenaked ladies song that even the young'uns here might remember: "If I had a million dollars, I'd buy you a K-car -- a nice Reliant automobile..."

though, i'm really not sure why anyone these days would want a K-car, let alone if they had a million dollars. but i digress.

it would be worth the $1500 for the aluminum hood, the EURO lights, and grill.

I think the SEC front looks great on the sedan as well! i had one (look in my gallery).

Why do you think the SEC hood looks good on SEC but not on SEL? it doesn't make sense, they have the same roof line and rear end, only 2 doors less and different rear window.

RE: SEL w/Coupe front end

Hi Eddie,

You've a bunch more experience with the W126 than I have. A lot more in fact.

I'm finding it hard to agree that the rear of the SEC is identical with the SEL (save the back glass & incidentals). To me, it appears to have a different (& subtle) proportion overall.

That said, I totally agree that the SEC F/end is an asthetically pleasing modification to the 4 door version.

Here are some images:

Cheers, MBL

Hi jdc,

You Old F***.

I too, remember the Special K car. Sheesh, couldn't you have provided a metallic beige one for the (ah) somewhat younger members?

Hi jdc,

You Old F***.
[:D][}:)][:D]

Guilty as charged…

See? The k cars were contemporary to the 126s. The one above is an 86 – amber corners, single lens lamps, cross-hair grill with a star in the middle…scary… it think the k car was a rip-off of the SEC.[:(!]

The star on a sedan belongs on the hood, not inside the grill.

They’re not the same. Besides the length and height, the SEC has different front fenders, the A and C pillars slope further inwards than on the sedan. As do the front and rear windshields. The roofline is different, too. The only noticeable difference between the two is the rear boot/trunk and taillights. Other than that, I don’t see any other similarities.

They were quite popular in the UK, 190E's with SEC front ends even more so. Very Miami Vice if you ask me.
Actually, I think the SEC conversion looks great on the 180/190E. Maybe because the W201 is a smaller vehicle and it seems much more pleasing to the eye. [?]

No, it does not look good on a w201, either. It looks contrived and pretentious as one tries to make a sedan look ‘SEC cool.’ If one has to try to look cool then you’re not.
