Just what does the stock security system do? I've never seen anything about it. I mean what activates it and what does it do when active? Also, when i was running wires into my trunk i found this preculiar looking plug laying in my front passenger feet area its a black cable with, what looks like a RCA connector on it only it has a bigger diamter so its wider. Any thoughts?

I read about it in the owners manual (I think) a few years ago when I got the car. Roll a window down, then get out and lock the car with the key. Reach inside and open the door. The horn blows, and maybe the lights flash. I don't remember exactly. Typical alarm action, I'd say. Shuts off when you unlock with the key. Test it at midnight for more attention. []

On my 190, when you lock the door from the drivers side, the alarm is activated. Any movement from the car (towing, pushing it, etc), the horn will blow and will lights will flash. My alarm was acting weird and keeps getting activated for no reason. It starts horning in the middle of the night. Now, the funniest thing is, the horn seems like its not working well. It seems like it squeeks, but the lights do flash.

if that is so, then i think mine is somehow disabled. Wonder how. Also wonder how to re-enable it.

Make sure you use the master key with the red dot on.

I've been using the second key the (circular ended one). Only the master will enable security, thats kinda stupid?

Well, yeah but the other key is sometimes called the valet key. So the nosey valet would not be able to see what you have in the trunk and glove department.

does the security system prevent starting the engine? If so how do i disable it? Stupid me put the master key in and bounced the front end up and down then tried to start it and it wouldnt crank over...I threw a batt charger on the batt so i wouldnt kill it trying to start it so many times HELP!

Never tried starting the car with the alarm on, but I don't think i Maybe you have it on D if you have an auto? That might be a reason why the car won't start.

My mechanic said the sec. sys. has nothing to do with the starting of it. he said it could be the glow plugs. Damned thing started up yesterday fine. I cant get it to like kick in, it will crank and crank but just not start. Ive got the block heater on and the batt charger running...

It might probably be a winter diesel things. I have problems starting my W123 diesel too in the winter. Search for "winter problem" and you'll get a better understanding.

i get the problem, its just weird, ive started her in colder weather.

I opened door with replicated key once, and then the horn blew with light flashing.
After that, I have used only original keys.

well i took the car up to the mechanic, the glow plugs were fine. He spotted a fuel leak. That would explain why the damned tank emptied faster than usual. He also said I should get the valves inspected / adjusted. Just got a new radio fade switch..gonna go install it
