i do not know about tokoyo (w/r/t/ lawsuits), but in the us common sense would lend itself to mb issuing a safety recall for seat belts that have a safety feature that 'wear' with age - especially if a large number of vehicles are prone to such. but, i appreciate your concern.

if you can answer the following it would be a tremendous help: when were yours replaced under warranty? under the factory or an extended warranty? how old was your car at the time? how many miles were on your car at the time? if it was outside of the factory warranty and not under an extended warranty, how did you compel replacement?

all the best.

Just want to clarify - it's not about laws - I'm referring to a seatbelt not retracting (buckled or unbuckled) followed by the owner of the vehicle pulling it to pieces and spraying lubricants into it. Not a MB issue but mere common sense. :)

I'll answer these again ;)...

They were replaced last year (2007) - Dealerships extended warranty (3 year) and replacement was compeled by the fact that the belt (drivers side) wouldn't retract whilst unbuckled (and eventually buckeled as well - followed by not locking when pulled) which to me was simply and item on the vehicle not doing what it was supposed to

i now understand. prior to your replacement our situations were different

when BUCKLED the belt sits snug across my chest, with no unecessary slack. if there was slack, then yes, this would be a problem as i could slip out from under the belt in the event of an accident.

when UNBUCKLED the belt retracts only about 50% of the way back to the b pillar.

and as previously noted, when BUCKLED the belt tensions time and time again. if it would not tension, then yes, this would be a MAJOR problem.

thank you for the added warranty replacement info. unfortunately i never purchased an extended warranty, and if i had, it would have run out many years ago!

good day to you in jp!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread...

Noticed my drivers belt is slow to retract - however it appears to be related to the roller on the piller. It is designed to slide up and down when seat is adjusted fwd/bwd - that part seems to 'stick' and when the seat is moved back a bit the belt returns and works normally. Only when I move the seat fwd a little does it stick again.

What retracts them....?

What retracts the front seatbelts? A spring or a motor?

My right side seatbelt will not retract at all, key on or off, buckled or unbuckled. Just stays out all the time. What rolls it back in?
