I have the same problem. The drivers side seat belt does not retract fully after unbuckeling. It seems that there are mixed findings as to whether contact cleaner spayed on the belt buckel recepticle does the trick or whether a replacement of the system is needed. Before I make a mess and spray contact cleaner, can anyone anyone confirm success using such? Thank you.

i do not believe this to be a safety issue, otherwise mb would have issued a recall.

exactly when were yours replaced under warranty? was this under the factory or an extended warranty? how old was your car at the time? how many miles were on your car? if it was outside of the factory warranty and not under an extended warranty, how did you compel replacement?

a side question: have you replaced your airbags? to my understanding, proper functioning cannot be gauranteed past 10 years...

i do not know about tokoyo (w/r/t/ lawsuits), but in the us common sense would lend itself to mb issuing a safety recall for seat belts that have a safety feature that 'wear' with age - especially if a large number of vehicles are prone to such. but, i appreciate your concern.

if you can answer the following it would be a tremendous help: when were yours replaced under warranty? under the factory or an extended warranty? how old was your car at the time? how many miles were on your car at the time? if it was outside of the factory warranty and not under an extended warranty, how did you compel replacement?

all the best.

i now understand. prior to your replacement our situations were different

when BUCKLED the belt sits snug across my chest, with no unecessary slack. if there was slack, then yes, this would be a problem as i could slip out from under the belt in the event of an accident.

when UNBUCKLED the belt retracts only about 50% of the way back to the b pillar.

and as previously noted, when BUCKLED the belt tensions time and time again. if it would not tension, then yes, this would be a MAJOR problem.

thank you for the added warranty replacement info. unfortunately i never purchased an extended warranty, and if i had, it would have run out many years ago!

good day to you in jp!
