Hi,

I have a 1992 500SL.

The passenger seat-belt is getting stuck, until there is no more belt. I took the seat apart (interesting!), read the various posts on seatbelts, got the belt working again, and now it is stuck again. I got it going by inserting the driver side seat-belt in the passenger side and "playing" with the belt, and I think if I played with some more, it will work again.

But I really don't want this to happen again. I hear a click when I turn on the ignition so I think it's some sort of solenoid is energized, and I believe this problem is electrical in nature.

So, can anyone advise how is the child related problem or otherwise (read this on other posts), is defeated on the passenger side, like I am sure it is on the driver side? Can the belt reel be free from any electrical overides, etc. Or? Or?

I don't want to spend lots of $ because I know another belt system can be adapted from another car.

Thanks for all your help!

Seat belt is stuck

Hi,

Well, I tried other remedies. I disconnected the battery for an hour, hooked it up again, then I tried the belt again- after I moved the seat slightly forward.

Now it works with no problem. When the ignition is not engaged, then it doesn't move (while the driver's belt works with no problem). When the ignition is engaged, then the passenger belt works with no problem as well.

I feel that the belt gets an electrical signal that tells the belt to not move when the ignition is off. But as long as it is working, it's no longer a problem...
