I have an SLK with AMG rims and near new Pirelli Tyres. One of the rear tyres has a screw logged in the tread. I may be able to remove it by unscrewing it.

What can be done and what is safe. I have heard that tyres can be 'plugged' is this a safe and lasting solution.

Many Thanks
John

I would have the tire removed from the rim
and have it patch internally after removing the screw. In my opinion, plugging the hole, will make the steel belts seperates more.Imagine making
the hole bigger to make room for the plug.

Ditto. My puncture required plugging to stop the air leak and I was worried about reducing safety. My tire guy said otherwise, however, knowing my nature and my CLK55 full well. I had my doubts but now have considerable 135mph+ time and 12k miles on that tire since then.
