There is an oblong panel about 4" x 1" at the top right of my windscreen, what is it?

although you have posted on the W168 forum I suspect your car is a W169 in which case it could well be the wet screen/rain sensor which automatically operates the wipers

Nope, it IS a 2001 (Nov) W168 A170 Cdi Elegance, But I do not have auto screen wipers, does that mean they are pre-installed and all I need is the relay and possibly a switch, would that also mean the auto lights and dip is in the same sensor and can be retro fitted?

The rain sensor on the W168 is in the middle of the windscreen as part of the interior rear mirror plastic enclosure extended from the roof (where the interior lights are) down with the sensor pointing at a small area of the windscreen covered by the wipers (for obvious reason) just below the mirror. It is operational automatically at the intermittent wipe setting. You may not have the rain sensor installed if your interior mirror is just attached to the windscreen and has no enclosure.

O.K, Very clear on that then but that brings us back to back to my OP, what is the thing in the top right of the screen 4" x 1"?

My W168 has nothing installed at the corners and I can't find anything being mentioned in the manual either.

Perhaps a photo or two may help us to identify it.
