Recently while using PTO equipment in the crawler gears, have noticed a bit of vibration when the revs are increased. Problem has been traced to a worn Universal Joint at the rear of the prop shaft between the engine and transmission.

It was pulled apart earlier and is alot worse than we initially thought and needs replaced ASAP.

Any ideas where to get a replacement as pretty expensive from the local dealer? Am in the UK and was wondering if any local commerical vehicles place would be likely to stock if they are a commonly used size. Would like to get it moving again tommorrow if I can source local.

I measured 82mm accross with 34mm caps.

Regards

try

AC price or arthur ibbetts etc, as you are best off ringing around a few of the unimog dealers

i often find arthur ibbetts cheeper than the rest on most things.

can you make out the OEM's name on the caps etc as it will be e.g. SKF, Fag in which case SKF, Fag etc will have an OEM part without the MB stamps/box.

e.g. goldline bearings in the midlands are a big SKF distributor.

Was hoping that you'd reply as seem to be a fountian of knowledge for us UK guys! :D

After failing to source locally, tried all the usual suspects with prices ranging from £118 (Ibbetts) to £156 +Vat, with my local MB dealer surprisingly beating some of the well known specialists at £133 + Vat! (But no stock)

Any how, found Bailey Morris wo had the UJ on the shelf at £90+Vat. Genuine MB part too! Thank you, think I'll have one please.... says I.

cool

was going to suggest H L Smith Transmissions as a last resort as they do lots of propshafts both recon and new bespoke one-offs, they have done a few (non unimog) for me in the past.
