Hi all,
I'm interested in installing a high volume hydraulic pump on my 1300L and would prefer to use the PTO on the gearbox rather than have it run off belts on the engine. The RMM option code listing shows this PTO as MB option N16. Does anyone have this installed? Can anyone provide a picture? Does anyone have a hydraulic pump on this PTO? On the slim chance that anyone has one they're willing to sell, I'm interested.

Thanks,
OO

Depending on what you want to use it for, I've got a 24v like new electric pump that was on my truck when I bought it. The previous owner had a plow attached. I have the tank, pump, lines. frame mount, and remote control. Make me an offer I can't refuse.

Have you considered the fact that your winch will be dependent on your clutch being in or out? The high speed PTO is more intended for stationary use where you're not trying to drive at the same time. If I were doing it I would consider using the engine mounted pump so I could winch regardless of the clutch. Just a thought.

BD,
Thanks for the input. I have thought about it but the only downside I can see is that if the clutch failed, I wouldn't be able to winch. I think this is pretty unlikey, and if it did, I would need a tow anyway. More common is the chance that I would have to winch out of water (which has already happened to me) and in such a case, the clutch is more reliable than a belt. By this I mean that it's far less prone to slipping.

Another thing I considered was the need to engage or disengage the wheels while winching. I have the 24 speed transmission so I don't see this as a problem.

Am I missing something? Feedback is sure welcome. Has anyone had any experience with such a set up? Does anyone have the trans mounted pto on their truck?

Thanks,

OO

I have the high speed PTO you're talking about, it's engaged by a switch by my forward/reverse lever. Maybe it's not as big an issue as I think, I just like how mine is set up. That's good you have the working and crawler gears, did you add those yourself? Crawler I could live without but working is a must.

There will always be a scenario in which one setup is superior to another. The electric winch crowd (which tends to be people with vehicles never intended to have PTOs or hydraulics) always brings up the "stalled out in water" scenario which their electric could get them out of. You basically do what you have to to get what you need done.

BD,
I did add the 24 speed myself. I was looking to get a 16 speed but the one I have just came along at a good price so...

So you've got the tranny mounted PTO... Is there any chance I could get you to take a picture or two? I want to buy one but I don't even know what it looks like. Is there a tag or other numbers on it that identify it? I would really appreciate it!!!!

It came on the truck, not sure if it was ever used. The guy I got it from had a Schmidt street vac and an Assaloni salt spreader and sprayer. Not sure if either one of those ran off of it, I didn't take those implements.

Gents, I have pulled my SBU out of storage,(where it has been for 4 years due to unfavorable circumstances) and I am making an effort to get it sorted out and begin to get to know her. As some of you may remember, I had questions about it a year ago when I last thought my troubles with it were past. At the time, I didn't realize it had a center mounted PTO on it! What a pleasant surprise to realize what I was looking at when I began doing some work on it the other day. It is controlled by one pneumatic switch, which sounds like what some of you have as well (blackdiesel). What is the proper sequence to engage it? Also, is there a devise that would allow a forward PTO say for a winch and a rearward output for something like a hydraulic pump. I can not find any photos of any devises or shafts or reversers or anything intended to be run by this center PTO output. Can anyone help here (Reinhart ;-)?

One more random SBU question... My blinker fuse, I think #7 or #9 keeps blowing. How many amps is required for that circuit? It looks as if it is the only item on this circuit. I am sorry I don't have the manual for this Mog. I want to see if 5A is simply too little before I start searching for shorts.

Thanks a bunch guys!! -James

James,
My manual has the turn indicator fuse as No. 7, and it calls for an 8 amp fuse there.

If that does not do the trick, I'd check the wattage of the bulb just for grins.
Even though the U1450L was very well maintained, I found incorrect (lower)
wattage bulbs in a few spots, including the tail lamps, when I decided to go through all of the lights. I think sometimes people just install what they have on hand and never get around to getting the correct bulb as long as it lights up...

As far as the center mount PTO photos...I don't think I have any..but the
" SBU gearbox, etc " file is full of all sorts of unsorted stuff. I'll give it a look, but there is every chance that I would not recognize it for what it is...I'll check and post if I find anything. I definitely have PTO boxes, right angle drives, shafts, reducers, etc etc, but I don't know if I have anything like on your DAYGLO, UH,... SAFETY ORANGE DOKA...

OK, here is how they send a PTO shaft forward on the U1400 Tugs which have
a torque converter...they come off the center PTO drive , and over and forward...nothing to the rear in this set up. I'm not sure if that is a gear or a Chain drive; for some reason I'd guess chain, but I don't really know.

I suppose you could adapt one of these 3-gear boxes, and you might be able to get shafts headed both ways.
I was told that the U1400 tug has only the 540 RPM PTO speed with the set up shown.
