I have a E 320 CDI 2005 w211 estate, purchased in the UK. There is a sat nav unit in the boot which takes a sat nav DVD.

Can I purchase the latest DVD (part number A 211 827 33 65 I think) and insert it into the DVD unit in the boot. Will this work or is it more complicated than that? Hope someone can help. Thanks:confused:

Was there a DVD in the Nav drive when you purchased the car? If not, then you might consider asking the previous owner where it is. After all, the NAV unit is completely useless without the map DVD, and there should be no reason to ever remove it (unless of course you're putting a newer one in).

Either way, the place to start would be to buy the updated DVD and pop it in. When you insert it, any necessary updates should occur automatically. If the updates don't occur and/or and you get a message like "No DVD Please insert Navi-DVD", then you may be in need of an update.

Or, as was the case with mine, my OEM Map DVD was flawed. When I made a copy of it, and burned it on a new DVD-R disc, it worked fine. Problem is, I bought my DVD used, so I can't exactly return it. It was an OEM DVD (had NAVTEQ etched on the clear hub portion of the disc), so not sure why my drive wouldn't read it. You can read more about my issue here - Need Nav Update disc (W211 589 15 22 00)

Best of luck.

Thanks for the info. The car has a factory fitted DVD unit. The problem is that I am in Ireland and the current DVD only covers the east coast. If I put the latest DVD part number A 211 827 33 65 in the DVD sat Nav unit, will it work?

Should work, yes. Only one way to find out, right? Seriously though....you want the updated DVD anyway...so go ahead and get it. Pop it in, and it should work just fine. If not, then you may need a separate update, but I sort of doubt you will. All the best, TJ

It should definitely work fine. If your Comand unit can play mp3 CD's, you should not have to do anything else than just insert your new NAV DVD in the trunk. If it is not mp3 capable your 2005 Comand unit needs a firmware update. It is a CD with parts no w211 589 13 22 00 that you insert in the CD slot of the Comand unit. An MB dealer can do it for you. There was a new firmware in the 2007 models that you get with this CD, and as I said it might be required to handle the 11.0 version of the map DVD. Good Luck!

Sorry, just found out that mp3 was enabled in Comand already during 2004, so your car should have that regardless of a firmware update having been done or not. Anyway, if your car for any reason does not accept the new nav DVD, an upgrade should fix the problem.
