A body paint company told me about a process which I am highly interest in doing. They said, they Wet Sand 2000 grit the entire vehicle, than buff with a special "WAX". They said it brings the original shine back to your vehicle.

I was wondering, if a good claying with a good wax than sealant would do the trick or is the sanding/buff at a professional shop work better. I think what they said was the sanding and buffing takes off that thick layer of built up crap on our vehicles, but it sounds good if its gonna take off the scratches and clear coat cracking.

Then I was wondering, is it possible to just have the clear coat removed than have it re-applied with out getting a whole new pain job. thank you

It's not possible to remove the clear coat, but it's normally not necessary. You can sand what's there and spray on top of it.

Wet-sanding with 2000 grit will help. To get an even better shine, you can use polishing compound. Clay never hurts before applying wax.

What are your issues?

Wet sanding will rid your car of many scratches.

Clay bar will clean everything off of the paint to prep the surface for new wax.

PS there is no special wax that takes car of scratches. Its the process that does that.

I use to own a Bodyshop/Detail shop.

Lets take a look

Post some pics, your car can not be that bad. A good detail job should take care of most of your issues (i think). To repaint is the last thing that you want to do for several reasons.

As you just did too acarter53. My dealer has a pretty good detail shop, but they don't do any collision repair. Of course, they have a preferred shop for that.

Thats fly that you owned a shop, I would love to own one.

My paint is actualy in a good condition, its the sudden high number of scratches on my hood and trunk, as if some put a book bag on it and carelesly dragged it off. Swirles, scratches, and oxidation from the previous owners lack of car. The paint color is some what unique in my area, Opal Black, the metalic look, real different. I wanted to sharpen the look and rid my self of the excesive scratches, plus my paint or clear coat is cracking like dry soil. I figured getting the sanding, polishing, claying, will bring back the shine, and get rid of the cracking and scratches and the oxidation that I see starting on my trunk and around the car.

Did you say cracking? That can not be fixed. Cracking will need a repaint.
:crybaby2: wow, so I could get the hood repainted then get the body pollished up with all that buffing and sanding, or should I just get a whole new paint job?
