Hey guys,

So I have a question. My new to me '00 S500 has the AMG sport package, and therefore has the different size wheels/tires front and rear. I like the looks of the AMG wheels, but I do not like not being able to rotate the tires. Would I be able to purchase two additional AMG Wheels and then run the same size tire on all four corners? I don't need staggared wheels. I drive all level roads, and don't drive fast or aggressive.

Thanks,

matt

Ha! Well right now, nothing unless I swap something. Found the receipt for the tires on the car, and they have about 24k miles on them, so I am sure I will be due for a set soon. Would like to figure out the wheel thing by then. Are you in the market for amg wheels?

Code:
Yes you can run all 4 front wheels or even all 4 rear wheels if you prefer a wide tire all around

I only get about 15k out of my rear tires
I wasn't sure if the rears could be run on the front or not. Thanks for replying.

15K is a little slim out of a set of tires. I was pleased to find that the tires have about 24k-ish on them. It would be nice to get between 30-40k from a set of tires.

I will keep my eyes open and see if I can find two matching AMG wheels for a descent price, and plan on going the same size tire all around on the next set.

Thanks again,

Matt

You might want to start a new thread on here (and perhaps on other subForums here, and on other Mercedes Forums) offering to trade two wheels with anyone who also wants to run the same size all round. You end up with four fronts, they end up with four rears, or vice-versa. Minimal cost for both of you.

Thanks everyone for the info. I searched a little bit, but I couldn't find the width of the rear rims. The rears appear to have a bit more of a dish to the than the fronts, would these still work on the front end? I can toss a picture up a little later.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,

Check your owners manual under specifications. If your wheels are a stock staggered setup then width and offset of fronts and rears will be listed. If you do not have access to an owners manual, you can download a PDF copy here under the owners tab. Many of your general questions can usually be answered in the owners manual.

Good Luck,

Bob

Bob,

Thank you, found the size in there. Yes, they are the stock wheels. :)

Thank you,

I've been running 19 x 9.5 wheels at the front for some time. Tires are 275-35-19. This does wonders for the handling, at some cost to ride.

I also tried 18 x 9 with 265-40 at the front, which is a good compromise.

10" wide wheels will fit at the front, but tire matching will be compromised.

The solution is to use the stock offset of about 44-45mm.

I feel strongly that staggered wheels are not the optimum solution for the s-class.

Nick,

Thanks for the extra info. I don't think I will go any bigger than the stock 18'' wheels. I want to keep the ride quality the same. And I really like the AMG wheels. I think I may start trying to source two more rears. I like the more dished look of the rear wheels.

Thanks,

Matt
