Hi,
Although I sold my ML430 I keep in touch with the new owner. He's asking me if I have the safety box (under the front passenger seat) key. I don't recall getting any other keys from the dealer other than the 2 FOBs. Is there a separate key for this box or should the FOB key fit? If there is a separate key, can someone post a picture of what the key looks like so I can search through all my keys at home to see if I have it?
Thanks!

Yes, there is a separate key. It looks like a silver file cabinet key. Mine says "STRATTEC" on it.

I found mine taped to the wall inside the safe after owning the vehicle for 3 weeks.

My locksmith picked it in under 30 seconds, opened it up to find the key taped to the inside. The other key was gone.

Just in case you don't find the key. I bought a new lock with 2 keys from the dealer for $50 and takes 5 min to install.

What a brilliant key storage solution!
Almost as brilliant as the battery under the passenger seat in the new ML's.:)

Isn't that theoretically dangerous in an accident?

As for the box, I've always wondered about the key although I never really cared to secure my owners manual that well. :D

Probably not, since the strong safety cage around the passengers is last line of defense. If there is intrusion there, you are probably very dead already.
