Can anyone tell me how to find the cause of ABS warning lamp coming on when driving, it goes out when engine starts, but after a few miles will come on,sometimes after 20 or so miles. My local dealership tells me that it is very difficult to tell the cause, and could be very expensive!! to cure.has anyone had similar problems.

ABS

Check your tires, make sure they are the same size and type, possibly tread depth.I read an article that claimed the light could come on due to the number of rotations of the tires? the other could be the sensor on the wheel(a toothed affair) and the magnetic pickup getting /or not/ pulses.

Could also mean your ABS unit needed to be replaced. And don't take it to the dealers, they just rob you out right. Since your car is already 10 years old, you could get some rebuilt parts like I did. They all come with at least a year warrantee I think.

Or just take it to the empty parking lot on a rainy day and try it. Slam on the brake to see if the ABS is kicking and stop with no drama. Keep us posted.
