As a purist, I don't normally ask this but where is the best place to purchase an S600 grill for my '97 S500. I see them on e-Bay all the time but am not sure if that's the best place to go.
Thanks
Paul

get the one from ebay. just make sure the seller has good feedback and read the responses from others that bought it. their $80 with shipping. those other links show them at $400. you could buy five. it's only the insert not the chrome ring.

FYI...My 1992 600SEL of course came from the factory with the traditional 140 grill seen on all models at that time. A few months ago I went to my local dealer and order the "600" Grill (1996 and up) plastic piece and then all of the chrome members that go horizontally and one verticle. I found assembling the new grill to be a pleasant experience. It was exciting installing the new one and driving around with it on! Of course my car IS a 600. It would be a SIN to drive...say an S420 or S500 with a 600 grill! You may get pulled over by the "Grill Police"!!! By all means...get one for your car. Its fun. I also enjoy that I have my pristine original grill in a clear plastic bag (the one the new plastic piece came in) on display in my garage! You know, of course, that you do not have to buy an entire grill; just the insert. [:)][:)][:)]

Well I took the plunge- against all my better instincts I ordered an insert on Ebay for $75 shipping included. The piece is comming out of Singapore ( I hope) and should be here in two weeks. I'm not a very experienced "Ebayer" and hope I didn't get screwed. The vendor (Autobilz or something to that effect) wouldn't accept PayPal but some other site and later I found out that they'd made the feedback private. This means that all I can see are the raw numbers, either thumbs up, neutral, or thumbs down- not the actual report that customers submit.
I got an Email yesterday saying the grill was on the way and thanks for my business so we'll see.

Good luck with your purchase [:)]

We got an OEM S600 grille as part of an insurance claim when our precious W140 was in an accident [:D] That chrome grille transforms the front of the car . . . you will love it!!

Brett,
Very cool.. I didn't know that about Autobiz. I'll post pictures as soon as I mount the grill.

I cannot imagine me being happy with a 600 grill that was not a genuine Mercedes part. The grill insert I purchased from my dealer along with all of the chrome verticals were all top quality and went together very well both off the car during assembly and when installing on the car itself. I think the whole thing didn't cost me more than about $250.00.[:)]

Well, it would be unfortunate if this site accepted advertising from

substandard vendors. Very unfortunate for us. The Boxster site that I frequent only accepts sponsorship (paid advertisements) from top notch vendors (that I can tell).

Got an email from the vendor today- said part is on it's way via DHL. Should be about 10 days out- probably is going to depend on the ocean currents [:D]. As far as the quality, we'll see. I'm not going to mount anything that is substandard- on the other hand $250 is a bit much for my vanity. Once and a while you get lucky. If it turns out to be a piece of crap They'll know and so will all of you and we'll let the free market take care of it's self.

Paul:

I want that grill to be quality...for you sake. It is appreciated that you'll let us know what you think once you have possession of the new grill.

Thank you.

Jim,
Sorry for the poor choice of words- shouldn't have used "vanity" but "budget" instead. If this grill is anything but perfect I'll use it for target practce. The cheapskate in me took over when I saw the $50.00 price (plus $25 to ship from Singapore)
