I haven't confirmed it yet, but I think my cat is clogged.
Now I'm wondering where I can get a replacement cat from.

I don't really want to buy them at the stealership, since they'll probably cost around 20k each :p
Ebay could be an option, but there aren't many available (read none), so I'm thinking I might get my cat repaired.
Does anyone know a company who can put in a new cat membrame that is like OEM? Prefferably in Europe or The Netherlands

I only need it to pass the MOT, I've turned off after cat diagnosis so if the cat behaves a little different it's not an issue

20K? That's a lot. I bought a set for about US $1200 for my S600. Not sure what shipping would be to the Netherlands, but it's got to be less than 20K.

Is there truly nobody in your locale that remanufactures cats? I'd think there would be, given the strict emissions laws in the EU.

Remember that the M137 has a grand total of four cats. Did you buy them from the dealership?

There is a company that seems to sell the remanufacturing process as a service, so I might try to contact them

Ah, yours is the M137. Right. Mine is the M275, so it's only got two.

Definitely consider the remanufacturing process. Mine are remans. Looked just like brand new when they arrived.

You may not have to worry about dealership prices as they appear to be discontinued. Reman may be your only bet.

I assume that the original cat was still in the converter housing? I'm planning to remove them for now in order to test if the engine is misbehaving because of the cats.

No, the newly remanufactured ones that they sent me were totall refurbished, with new cat material inside. Afterwards, I sent them my old cats to get the CORE charge back.

Here in the USA, the MB dealerships themselves handle that. I used www.MBOemParts.com. Unfortunately, they do not ship internationally. I also checked a few more dealers's Web sites over here, and they also do not ship overseas. I'm guessing this is due to contracts for both marketing and legal purposes. Therefore, for your case, I would see if there's someone there in the EU who can do it. Since you're in the Netherlands, I'd imagine it wouldn't be difficult to find a company who does this. Germany's right next door.

Alternately, if that isn't an option, then I would contact www.fcpeuro.com. They do ship internationally, and they have been known to be able to get parts that aren't listed on their Web site. The shipping would be pretty high for something as bulky as an S600 catalytic converter assembly, but it still would be far less than 20K euro. If they cannot do so, they might be able to guide you to someone who can remanufacture yours, even if that means shipping both ways.

But I've got to believe there's someone in the EU who remanufactures cats! Given all the cars and the emissions laws, there's going to be a good-sized market for this service.

before you do anything and spend a lot of money, first search my comments here (and there at MBworld) on cats.
a) readings on O2 sensors when running
b) cylinders shutting down due to O2 readings
c) inspecting with a cheap flex camera after disconnecting

Thanks Kraut! I will, I can however confirm that the engine loses power at the top end of the rev band and it is almost at the point that it hesitates to run and produces somewhat of knocking sound

don't forget that the rear exhausts have a non-monitored cat as well, and these too like to fail by blocking the flow.
Apparently these then make a "rattling" sound ( I have no experience with that).
