firstly welcome aboard you will find anything and everything you need to on here regarding the w140. although i have heard of the company and they do advertise in a few of the classic and performance car magazine,s as well as the enthusiast magazine i have never had any dealings with them.
the car does look a very clean example and the mileage is low,the best advice i can offer is to spend as much time as you can checking everything works be thorough as you will be aware these cars are very complex and expensive to keep in top condition.
the car will almost certainly have self closing doors and bootlid check all of them work especially the boot lid try it 4 or 5 times consecutively.
look for broken front and rear springs. also check the handbrake is functioning as they are often neglected through lack of use as they are often left in park without use.
have a good look at the paintwork they are not immune to tinworm front wings especially and the lower plastic side panels are good water traps.
hope this helps a little someone else may come along and point out something else.
if you dont go for this one therte are plenty out there so good luck
and let us know what you end up with

Daveyboy, Imho that price(Euros?) seems fair to me if it's in the condition that it appears, which looks near excellent. Low mileage, I'm guessing a 99. Interior and exterior look very good and assuming never in an accident, have checked with paint meter or a trained eye. Of course you want to check the ac function, transmission shifting smoothly up and down, windows function, vacuum closing of all doors and trunk as well as lumbar support inflation/deflation and the unlocking/locking mechanism with remote key, 2 remote keys along with manual spare. Inspect brakes, rotors, pads and function. The safest route is to have car inspected by a MB dealer or an indy that is very familiar with W140's. As far as the purchase, if it is the same as our retail sales locations they will always come off the price a bit. Good luck, I used to own that exact model and color. It is a reliable vehicle but needs to be maintained properly. Looks sweet to me.

Thank you for the fast responses. I hope to view the car at the weekend and I will have my checklist with me. If all seems well and I can strike a deal I will be a W140 owner in the very near future. I will report back:)

I'd kill for a car like that for that price here in Australia. I guess it is a bit dear by UK standards though, you guys get better deals than us. If the mechanicals are as good as the cars appearance it should do well. I'm still waiting to get my contract renewed. Won't be buying anything if I'm not working next year. :(

I see that it has the orthopedic seats. I would be very interested in hearing your opinion of these. My intended use will be for long trips where I spend 16+ hours behind the wheel on a single weekend. There is only one car advertised here with the orthopedic seats. It's miles away and I hate the colour but I have a lot of back problems and it might be worth it if the seats make a difference.

Well I went to view the car today and I couldn't find anything wrong with it so I have bought it. I pick it up next weekend. It is beautiful! Thanks to everyone for your input.

Congrats on your Purchase and welcome to the W140 Group ,looks like i'm a bit to late but does the matter, Beautfull Car you bought there .
One thing only i can add ,wich is < Check the Radiator Tank CAP ,you dont want to see that Water overflow there ,hopefully it is only the Cap with a bad seal .
I hope that you drove the Car for a longer than usual Testdrive ,as these take some time to heat up .How is the Temperature on the Gauge inside ?

Whoops...I never checked the radiator cap! Oh well fingers crossed. The car drove beautifully and is going in to a specialist for service this week. (WDM Cars in Birmingham).
Its previous owner had the car for 9 years. He was apparently an elderly chap who has sadly passed away and he took it to an MB dealer for servicing. The last service was 2008,
Apart from the stamped service book there are numerous invoices for the work and all the MOT certificates. The car has clearly been pampered lets hope it gives its new owner many years of reliable motoring!!!

Hi silver...Yes that sounds good. I am in Stockport Cheshire but I havent been able to find a suitable car locally. There are a few around here but they seem to have been neglected although quite a bit cheaper. I am hoping that paying the premium for a looked after car from a specialist will be worthwhile.

Congratulations, I hope it goes as good as it looks. Once you've had a chance to drive it more, would be so kind as to give an opinion on the orthopdedic seats? Right now the E38 BMW and their "comfort seats" are the only thing making them a viable alternative to the W140. I don't like them as much as the Merc but the sole purpose of the car will be the long drives.

Well I picked the car up today and spent around 2 hours driving it home.My first impressions are all positive...very stable on the road and responsive to the throttle although icy roads meant I couldnt take full advantage of the power.
The temperature gauge ranged from 80 whilst cruising to about 90 at idle...oil pressure was 3 whilst on the move dropping to 2 at idle. I assume these readings are ok? I found it hard to judge the orthopaedic seats except to say that they work. To be honest at full pressure I found it a bit uncomfortable but maybe for someone with lower back problems the extra support could be helpful.
Oh and a quick word about the dealer...seems a great guy and obviously enjoys old mercs. All his stock looks first class.

Congrats on making the purchase, so far so good I hope? Something I did was to replace the stock radio with a Pioneer unit that has bluetooth built-in and added their hd radio module.(total about 350 USD) This Pioneer unit has an ipod port along with a flash-drive port for digital recordings. Primarily, I wanted hands-free operation for my cell phone. Just wanted to mention that modification in case you are interested. Otherwise, keep it au naturale and enjoy.

Hi again..

Yes so far so good. I am really enjoying the luxury. I am also looking at putting a bluetooth head unit in the car but was wondering if I could get this to work with the standard cd changer I have in the boot . Any ideas?
I am also looking at a couple of new front tyres within the next couple of months and am tempted to go with Continentals to keep the car as original as possible. Any thoughts?

No, can't utilize the trunk cd changer although the unit does have a single cd player, however it will allow ipod hook-up and also has a usb flash drive slot. Across the pond here my 99 originally came with Michelin's .

I guess it might be possible to find a head unit with an additional input for the changer. I will report back. Also does your Pioneer unit drive all the speakers in the car...there seem so many!!! I will make sure I keep the stock unit as the car is so original and perfect a future owner may be more interested in originality than technology.
How long have you had your W140?

Looks like a great car, is that an after market alarm by the air conditioning vent on the driver's side?
