I have a 95' S320 and I have a rust problem. Little areas are starting all over the car. Anybody have any advice on what to do?

Should I take it to a Body shot?

Sprays?

Paint?

Anything?

Thanks

you could you use some rust treatment and then touch up or if you are willing to pay some $$$ then paint strip, rust treatment, base coat, respray...of course if the rust area is small touch up will do just fine....

Where exactly is your rust popping up? Being the owner of 95 320 myself I wouldn't mind taking a look now.

The question with rust is - is it outside-in rust, or inside-out rust?
Outside-in is where there is a chip in the paint and the exposed metal gets rusty.
This can be stabilised by rubbing back, appling rust preventer then re-painting.

Inside-out rust is the big problem. Thats were salt and dirt trap water inside parts of your car, behind headlights, bottom of doors fender or sills, around the wheel arches. The rust starts from the inside and eats though until you notice the bubble in the paint. When this occurs it is not effective to rub back, apply preventer and re-paint as the rust from behind will just bubble through again.
You have to get in behind the problem and treat the area there. Its a tough job - prevention is better than cure! Good luck!

Trying to cure etc. rust is a waste of time. Get rid of it. Grind it out, cut it out, weld in new, filler and paint. Nothing else is effective.

Prevention is always better than cure.

Paint on "remedies" are a waste of money and look awful.

Properly done body repairs are an investment and probably the cheapest remedial work you will do on one of these cars!

Compare "Overhaulin'" with "Pimp My Ride". One is serious rebuilding and the other leaves tarted up dangerous heaps of crap. Taste is of course another matter.

100% right on the money..Rust is Cancer in the Auto World and will end up killing your cars body, unless you do what gartracescort said.Cut it out and repaint. If you have surface rust from rock chips thats completly different, but needs to be cleaned out and touched up. But if you have rust bubbling in your paint you will have a MAJOR problem in the future cause just like cancer, rust speads. My advice is to show a body shop manager and ask him what he thinks. It can be a $50 fix now but waiting could end up making it a $1000 fix.

It is Bubbling on the side drivers door panel!!! I do have some paint chip rust on the front grill. I'd be willing to spend $500-1000 to touch it up

I have it on the front grill from chips, My side panel has it and it is Bubbling.

Some of the corners are starting to rust on some of the panels

My 500SEL is going to the body shop next week to have all the scratches touched up, all the little dents repaired, and any rust to be dealt with accordingly. It's going to cost an arm and a leg, but it needs to be done! I'm sick of looking at dents and paint imperfections!! The funny part is, most people can't even notice any problems! I guess its my trained benz eye that spots them....

Dunno why you've got rust appearing everywhere, thinking maybe you have a problem with your paint from when it was new. I hardly ever see 140s with rust except in the usual places, (wheelarches).

How much are you paying to have it done?

No problem, I answer and listed it in a earlier post

140's rust around the following areas:

*trunk lid, by the edges
*trunk itself , where the striker is, under the plastic cover that runs parallel to the rear bumper -> every single 140 I have seen has rust under there but since it's hidden under a plastic cover, most people don't notice it. Pop the plastic cover off, and check.
*front quarter panel, right above the lower grey body panel between the door and front tires
*bottom edge of hood under the grill
*roof -> area in front of the sunroof, around the edge between sunroof and front windshield
*under the front door sills where you see a plastic with the mercedes writing--> very common on many 140's that I have seen here
*check for bubbles right below the rear tails
*check for bubbling around the rear trunk lock area. On a coupe it's easier to see because there is no cover, but on a sedan you have a trim piece that covers it (same trim piece that goes from one tail light to the other)
*area where front 1/4 panel meets the A pillar

I know a very good body shop east of Toronto who can take care of it at a very reasonable cost.

Wow, sounds like our Cras hang out in the same rusty spots:)
Very accurate of most of my rust spots.

Did you get your Benz touched up? If so, how long does it take?

Where is this place?

When you say "east" do you mean east toronto or outside of T.O?
