Unusual, but looks age related. Attack the problem now, while the rust is minimal, as once the cancer starts you can never fully get rid of it.

Yes, definitely that.

And is your cat damaged? I had similar on my coupé and I pointed out to the test man. He hadn't noticed it. So he marked it as split but not critical. No problem as I had another in stock but he did annoy me rather. The last test guy kept saying "... belle voiture .." from underneath so I'll use hime next time.

Yes that is a serious issue developing. As Sbaert suggested, get someone on it now because this is what you can see today. A more close inspection might reveal more rust in other areas. This and related areas need to be cleaned with a wire wheel at a minimum and treated with an anti rust solution. If the rust is more than just surface rust, then new metal will be required.

Your under belly panel is missing?
As Andy said, get in there with the wheel of death and paint it some.
All of us UK members can tell you all about rust!
The car looks very good underneath generally and I would struggle to find one so good here.
