I am building the complete drivetrain of a 2001 300e into a streetrod. :surrender: Don't shoot me...lol
To start off, I bought a rusted but running car, so have all the relevant bits to make it run.

Then we built it into the body, but from the start knew that the injection would not fit in the engine bay, so we will have to make an intake manifold and run it off Weber sidies. That is not the problem......yet.;)

What I do need help with is figuring out what is the minimum bits required to make the old girl fire.........i.e the least amount of electronics to be bolted back on / connected to get spark....nothing on the injection side needs to work.. and using as much of what I have???

I'm confused. You say that you want to run an M103 out of the car. You say that you are building the complete drivetrain of a 2001 300E into a streetrod.
But a 2001 300E is not a 124 chassis vehicle, the subject of this forum.
And a 2001 300E certainly does not have an M103.

I can't figure out why the fuel injection won't fit in the engine bay, but Weber sidedrafts would. Sounds like an interesting project, nonetheless.

Sorry should read 1991.
The motor needs to run in another vehicle in other words...and I need to know what needs to be taken out of the 124 shell to do that, but the absolute minimum.

The whole fuel injection system sticks out quite a bit past the side of the engine. With shorter runners and 3 sidies it can just be made to fit. It would look a whole lot better too.....;)

Not forum friendly, but if/when we get it done I will post up pictures.

Last summer I bought a wrecked 1990 300TE (which has the same drivetrain as your donor car) and the seller was nice enough to sell off a bunch of underhood components after cutting the wiring harness all the hell. Thanks. Well I removed the whole engine harness from the car (or what was left of it) so I can tell you that you should do the same.
Just about everything you will need to keep the Jetronic injection sytem operational is part and parcel of that wiring harness that lays on the engine. There's a branch that goes through the firewall by the RH hood hinge and that goes to the oxygen sensor. AFAIK the only stuff *not* on that harness would be the fuel pump wiring (and, of course, the fuel pumps themselves).

He's only interested in the section of the wiring associated with the spark side of the equation, since he's using carbs for the fueling.

Engine is going into a London taxi which I am hotrodding a bit.....:)

I don't want to cut the car too much the reason the engine has to fit in the old space left by the 4 banger. Also it needs to look somewhat cool....so shiny carbs and dumping all the pipes and wires from the FI......this where it went in (need to upload the pics of it fitted still, but it is in already).

after this suspension and brake mods & then cutting the rust out.

Sooo anyone with help getting spark......????

This may be a bit simple minded but I would look at what is connected to the ignition system and go from there. I don't know whether the 1991 has the EZL ignition system and don't recall the wiring diagram to the EZL but that would be good starting point.

Regarding Webers, whoa! I had a Porsche with dual triple throat Webers and what a pain. Fuel injection is sooo nice. Always smooth. Easy to start in cold weather. Wouldn't it be easier to figure a way to make the FI fit? Put the throttle on sideways and breathe through an air filter in the wheel well. If looks are important, try chrome finishing the intake pipes or something.

But back to the ignition. Try getting a wiring diagram to the model you have and check what sensors are tapped into for the ignition. Mine has been troublefree for half a million km's. I think the EZL relies on an engine speed sensor and a vacuum signal from the intake but assuming you will have power brakes, you've already thought of vaccum.

BTW, a london cab makes for one funky car. I think that's cool,

Good Luck,
Peter

I like the project! Too bad you couldn't replace that little Perkins diesel with a hotrodded Mercedes turbodiesel. One of these days I want to retrofit a hopped up 124 diesel drive train and suspension into an old Mercedes Ponton.
