Rumours grow as Porsche signs F1 people

By Editor on Monday, October 15, 2012

There are rumours in the paddock that Porsche is considering a Formula One foray, according to Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport.

The VW-brand Porsche is returning to Le Mans, but the magazine said rumours are swirling that the project is merely “a warm-up” for F1.

Auto Motor und Sport said Porsche is busily signing-up personnel with F1 experience, including Fritz Enzinger, Alex Hitzinger, Mike Krack and recent Sauber engineer Urs Kuratle.

And the report said Porsche is also expressing interest in people from teams up and down pitlane.

Porsche is establishing its Weissach facility as a state of the art motor sport factory complete with wind tunnel, while the marque’s drivers are reportedly having hours booked in the McLaren simulator.

“The Formula One paddock wonders whether the expense is really intended only for Le Mans,” said Auto Motor und Sport.

Now Schumacher's departure from Mercedes is taking on a new perspective ;)
That would be a nice thought.
Schumi and Hans Stuck Jr (who raced for 40+ years) get along well.
Hans Stuck Jr is head of motorsport activities for VW and all affiliated brands.
Repost of my favorite Northern Loop Noerburgring Hans Stuck video:

He competed in many forms of racing, incl 81 Formula 1 races for March and Brabham (at 194 cm he was was a bit tall for F1), won a DTM championship, several 24 hrs of Le Mans and Nuerburgring, 12 hrs Sebring, and countless other races.
Stuck raced in the US IMSA GT Championship winning Summit Point, Mid Ohio, Heartland Park, Sears Point, Watkins Glen, Lime Rock and Laguna Seca in the Audi Team. Hans Joachim Stuck and multi-time worldchamp Rally legend Walter Rohrl piloting the flame-spitting 90’s, the two combined for seven wins in ‘89, prompting IMSA’s rule makers to change the rules for 1990.
Audi, in protest, would back their all-conquering cars up at the end of the season, never to be raced again.
