some rumors around CLK 430 and CLK 55's bending chassis parts and subframes have been surfacing at my office here in CA. Apparently "too much power".
Seems real fishy.

anyone hear any truth in this matter or shall I just dismiss as rumor

Bending ? Not that I heard off nor anyone posting such a problem...

Most likely a rumor but the too much power is right [:D][:D]

Ugh. I don't know, I'd love to hear more about it.

I just took my (laguna green [^]) CLK 430 in to the dealer to get a post-new tire alignment. They told me that my rear subframe was bent and that the car wasn't safe to drive. So I got a $3000 repair bill for a total Remove/Replace, and I can't recall bottoming out badly enough for something like like.

If you can refer me to any other people who had this happen, or really anything anywhere about this, I'd really appreciate it. If other people are seeing this, maybe it's time to talk to MBUSA about warrantee issues.

Thanks.
all of you with the dealers....oyyyy

it is true what they say. I had a clk55 in the shop for new exhaust, and noticed that rear subframe was bent. It was off warranty, so he told me to fix it. I believe the part cost something around 800 with 7 hours of labor. Finished it in a day and had the car back to the guy with a cost of 1700.

Just goes to show you, the dealer is a RIPOFF.

While this might be true, I don't know jack about cars - I needed the alignment done right away and the dealer was the only place that could take me within a week. I had to take his word that the car wasn't safe to drive.

Anyway, back to the main issue - if this is widespread, it seems to me that Mercedes Benz has the obligation to correct the flaw of at least cover the repairs under warrantee. Or even outside of warrantee, is this is happening it's obviously a dangerously faulty product.

Anybody else have any experience with this? If we get a bunch of people together and approach Mercedes Benz, we have a better shot at getting them to do something.

Thanks.
Maybe you guys should file a complaint here:

Thanks, just did. Their pop-ups didn't know about CLK 430s or CLK 55s, though.

By the way, did you have problems with the timing chain stretching on your 93 300D? I and my mom had a matched set, and they both had the timing chain stretching at almost exactly the same mileage, around 160K.
Re:re:

I have heard of that happening at about 70ish on that model year. I would expect it at about 160k, though, for any car.
