When I make U-turns or sharp turns, left or right, my ML literally rumbles and shakes as if in a minor earthquake. I browsed around the forum and saw that for earlier '99 models, the transfer case had a 50:50 split and attributes some vibration.. however I don't know what this "vibration" is and if it is supposed to be as noticeable/drastic as in my case.

The issue is only occurs when I try to accelerate in a sharp turn.. if I coast or stop accelerating, the rumbling stops.

I'm considering flushing out the differential and transfer case fluids but I'm not sure if there should be something else I should be diagnosing first?

Thanks,
Chris

have the same problem...as you said this seems to be the 50:50 split....

its quite noticeable and loud.....but then again it has been for 5 years and is still going strong.... let me know if you find a solution other than swapping out the transfer case :)

good luck

Is this rumble/shake felt directly beneath you or does it feel like it's coming from the front wheel?

I felt a shake coming from the wheel (only on sharp turns), and it turned out to be a wheel speed senor. Something to check- before dropping $1000-2000 on a transfer case.

I think my northern neighbour is on the right track.

My full-size P/U has exactly the same issue when one of the front CV joints is on the way out.

I haven't looked at the way the ML is set up, but on the Ford 1 ton trucks the front hub and CV joint is a single unit and not serviceable, nor can you even grease it.

CV Joint , interior tie rods.. had the same thing here. If it wasn't for a awesome alignment shop here that discovered the exact issue after the stealer couldn't find anything twice, the ML would have probably been in an accident.
The interior tie rod joint (ball part) was so warn out it could basically be pulled appart.

HELP NEEDED CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNING LEFT ML320

Hi Guys
I need your help, I get a clicking noise when I take left turns, I thought it was the driveshaft CV joint which was replaced and also the wheel bearing, Still I have the same clicking noise when I take left turns.

Please advise what could be the problem or what I should do next.

Regards
Rich
