Don't use RTV on these cars. For the oil level sender, the new gasket should be fine provided the mating surfaces are clean and straight.

However, I would recommend using Hylomar PL-32 or PL-32A. This is the same stuff used on other parts of the engine, such as the timing cover.

Order on-line from autohausaz.com, germanstar.net, parts.com so you get the exact items you need.

There is no such thing as one size fits all when it comes to cars.

RTV is for no pressure applications.
For high pressure threaded fitting I have been using Teflon dope with high success.
Available at any HD or plumbing store.
Finally the link to Amazon did open. That sensor per my knowledge is used on all diesels till 99. Newer years have sensors that read the level for the cluster display, so they are different.
We did not have MB diesels in US between 2000 and 2005 so no knowledge what they have.
That sensor is having 2 orings as Zeit says. You might be surprised that smaller oring is suppled with better oil filter kits. (would that suggest something?)
The big oring requires oil to be drained, but is few minutes job only to replace.

Good move changing the unit at the same time. They are $45 -$55 from a dealer and are usually the cause of the leak. The o ring will hang tough unless removed and reused.
