Hi Emman,

Generally, most automotive engines idles at around 700-800 RPM, irrespective of whether the gear is in P or N. P is a mechanically-locked and gear-not-engaged position of an auto transmision so ideally, it shouldn't affect the RPM. Normally car manufacturers will specify certain tolerance in the RPM. The bottom line is, an engine don't normally idle at 600RPM or 1000RPM. It may not be much, but I hope that helps.
