on my 99 clk, the roof has two plastic strips along each side, painted to match the color of the car.
mine are starting to peel badly.
how can i remove them, local shop will paint, but they dont know how to get them off.
i have tried popping/ prying them up, but i dont know which direction , front to back , or side to side.
obviously i dont want to break them in removal...
anyone ever done this?

yes i have its actually quite simple and im not telling you what to do with you car but if the body shop doesnt know how to take them off then maybe you should look into another body to paint them. thats just my opinion. usually body shops knows the ins and outs to every car. just a heads up. but back to your question start from the back right at the rear window and with your fingers just slowly pry it up. dont use a screwdriver or anything hard bc you might scratch the paint. there are approximately 5-6 metal clips that hold it in its very simple just dont force them to hard and start at the end
