Carefully pry the covers off towards the center of the grip. Once they're out of the way, you'll see a phillips head screw at each end.

Unscrew, remove grip.

Simple.

Yeah, I figured it out by pushing, pulling, and picking at it. It's slightly different on my 1982, but not complicated. There is a black plastic surround that pops off, held on by the outermost edge. The cover then slides over the grip, and the edge peels back to reveal the screws. In my car, they are 8MM hex heads. Thanks. I hope this helps someone else.

You're right - they are hex heads. I forgot that part. Sorry.

If you pull up on the outer edges the covers will pop off. They can be a little scary to do especially on an older car that's had the plastic dried out, but they'll come off. Once you do so it's a simple matter of just sliding them down the handle a bit and you're good to go.
