I am planning a road trip from NJ to Dallas, TX just in time for a friend's wedding and my birthday in October. I was just wondering if there were any tips anyone else would like to share about taking a long trip in the SLK.

A little background:
I drove my SLK320 from Chicago to NJ in about 11 hours a while back but this car has significantly better seats so discomfort is less of an immediate concern.
There's also that 5.4L V8 to keep me amused but not too amused since gas is inching towards $3.00 per US gallon.[:D]

A spare seat so you can pick up cute hitchhiker babes on the way.. I know it'll never really happen, but I have my dreams. ;)

How long you in dallas for, give me a shout if you get chance could have a beer.

I'll probably be in town for about a week so we'll be sharing a pint or two!

Lucky you! Travelling down South must be great. I have a radio show and a book signing in Sept-ÃŽles at the end of the month and I am planning to drive there in my SLK (a total 30-hour drive). I can hardly wait but I am afraid I shan't be able to drive with the hood down since Sept-ÃŽles is so far North. It will almost be winter up there still.

My producer told me there is a long straight road not far from there with virtually no police surveillance... [:p]

Thanks!

That road must be a dream... If you give a good review, I might have to take a northbound road-trip eventually as well! [:D]
I don't know about the police-free road but the main road is absolutely wonderful. The view of the river and the mountains in the background is breathtaking. It is not a motorway, just a plain old road. This will be the acid-test for my seats. I sure hope my lower-back can take it!
