Hi I have a 88 300se with 180k miles, the spark plugs are getting really fouled up with oil and there is a miss in the motor. I did a leakdown test and there was a lot of air coming from the oil filler however on the compression test it showed high compression around 190 even higher around 220 when i squirted some oil in but if the rings are bad why is the compression good?

My 560 has the same problem and I'm betting it's the valve seals. The rubber on these cars seems to deteriorate pretty quickly when they been sitting. I've had to replace P/S hoses, motor mounts, motor shocks, steering dampener and a few other parts all because the rubber was/is shot.

Been there, done that. Age and heat more than anything, sitting compounds the problem...I've done the valve seals, use Motul 20/50 motorcycle oil and the NGKs stay clean...now burns no oil, smoothed the idle out nicely, fuel consumption dropped and the oil stays clean. Worth doing in much anything that's 25 years old and climbing.

Now there's always soot on the tailpipe of the SD but that's something else :)
