Does anyone know if the 2003 500sl 7 spoke rims and tires 255/45/17 will fit a 94 without rubbing? I added them and they looked awesome but I was getting a clicking sound that I think was the after market lugnuts. So I could test to see if they would rub. Thanks all.... Steve

If you search the tire forum you will find that luke does not recomend that you put R230 rims on a R129. The lugs are 12mm on a 129 and 14mm on the 230. Plus the offsets on the 129 is 25mm compared to 33mm or 35mm on the 230 body....

I'ts relative

Well, I'm sorry, it's just an opinion, cause i don't try it yet, but I think that the offset it's not so important in this case in the 129. The original rims (8holes) of the '94 R129 have an offset of 34mm.
The last month, in my tyres shop, just for this thing (cause the tyres guy says that the offset in the 129 must be 25), we have tried an 8x17 ET37, and goes perfecty (well we don't know if it rubs, we just try it in the garage).

I don't know where the 25mm comes from but the original wheels on my 1990 SL are 34 mm and the chrome wheels I got now come from a 2000 SL500, also 34mm. I don't expect 33 or 35 mm to rub.

Just so I don't look like an idiot I have posted a link to a post form [email protected] ...

I have posted a link to a post form [email protected] I just went through the process of buying new rims/rubber for my 97 SL500. Ebay has tons of A230 rims for sale and I was going to by A230 rims but checked with TireRack(talked to person who works ther) before I made any purchases any and was advised that you do not do this. Here is the link and enjoy

Added:
I just put a set of AMG's(245/45/17) on my 97 and they are 34et offset so looks like you can put a bigger offset on the 129 body. There is not much room between the tire and the front struts, maybe 1/4 inch at most. Mercedes said these tires will fit so I have to take there word on it.
