Does any one know if 18" rims off a 2003 will fit a 1992 SL? Please let me know as I found a set and if I want them would like to pick them up after the holiday.

You can put them on, but they are not a correct fitment. The lugs on a 2003 are 14mm, the lugs on a 1992 are 12mm. Thus, the lugs are too small for the holes in the wheel. The ball seat will not seat properly, so it will be holding the wheel to the car using a very small piece of the wheels' aluminum alloy. Imagine the forces stressing that tiny bit of metal as you push your 4200+ pound car around a turn at 0.8g.

wheel bolts

I always read cautions about using 12mm bolts instead of 14mm bolts with reguards to OEM wheels but wonder about the so-called OEM look-alike replica alloys that all have 14mm sized holes. Quite a few vehicles come through where I work with these on and to my knowledge, they don't have a problem with the 12mm bolt (length of bolt is usually more of an issue). Come to think of it, not that many wheels that I've seen on imports or domestics are that close-fitting to the bolts/studs depending on retaining style so how do you know what is safe and what is not?
