so i got a warning that my FR side marker needed to be checked, i am sure it is burnt. i came to this forum figured out how to replace the bulb. problem is i managed to pry open the lens, but i cannot get access to the bulb because i think the electric code is too short or it is tangled somewhere. any ideas how i can handle this. thanks.

Well, 291 of the 292 probably had not experienced the problem. doni01 likely has the solution. When I replaced mine, the wire harness was short but I could get it out far enough.

I think you can look at your wheel well and at the deflectors under the car just as well as we can, to see that removing the wheel well liner or the deflectors would give you access to the harness, in case you think you might damage the wires. You could see if the harness was caught on anything.

Other than that, I don't know of any other solution.

Skylaw is correct. The best way to approach replacement of bulb/filament is by pulling the inner liner in front section of wheel well. Did it on my 02 S500. You have direct access. I believe it is 6 nuts in wheel well and 5 screws underneath that attach to lower front splash guard. 20 -25 minutes for removal and replacement complete. Oh yeah, pull your wheel off first.

Deucer definitely gives the easiest way for a single individual to access the remove the liner. When I was looking for a "better" way to access my headlamp assembly some months ago, I was able to turn the wheel outward (e.g., if passenger side, turn full right) and remove several of the nuts - and move the wheel well liner aside enough to get a look. If you take that approach, it might be good to have another person push the liner aside while you reach in. You won't have to reach very far.

BTW - it WASN'T a better way to access the headlamp assembly. But you should be able to reach the harness for the side marker.

Remove bumper strip

My bulb burnt out I removed the front bumper strip. Took me less then 5 minutes to replace the bulb.
Here is a link

Use a interior trim tool(plastic) if you do not have one use a plastic spatula(grab one from a dollar store this way you can modify it if needed)
Once you pull the bumper strip off the wire for the light is short so you need to disconnect if once the strip is off. Then you have all kinds of slack if you have parking assist to remove the bulb
