Tosman, if I interpret your question, you indicate that your steering wheel won't go up (or possibly down). If so, see post # 14 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1302190-ive-had-2.html#post2216730

Be sure to observe the caution about lowering the wheel if it won't go up.

If it won't move at all, it could be a failed motor or a broken nylon connector.

no no it moves up and also down but it wont increase till the end... easy exit function increase much than manual...

i am sory about my language i couldnt explain it

Easy Exit... Wheel and Seat auto adjustment

mvmiller has added one more to our knowledge: Power seats.

1. Hold down the "M" button and move the affected section of the chair with the chair control switch in the opposite direction it does NOT move.
2. Release the memory button and move the control of the affected section of the chair the direction you want it to go and it should go.

Thanks!!
So.... I'm not understanding the directions if I want my Seat and Wheel to move up and wheel in & up all the way when I remove the key how would I program this?

golf18, please complete the information under your avatar, so we know what model year your car is (it can make a difference); I presume it is a W220, since you ask the question on this forum.

You may not be able to get the easy exit feature to perform as you describe. The steering column will move up for easy exit, but it does not retract. The seat, which moves back but not up for easy entry/exit, will move only if it is normally positioned pretty far forward. If it is positioned within certain parameters set by Mercedes, it won't move at all (I don't know why, or what the parameters are).

You activate easy entry/exit feature in the convenience menu of the instrument cluster display. The function is fully described in your owner's manual.

Thanks for the reminder to complete the user info.... it's done.
Yeah, the 2000 does not have any info in the instr. cluster display. It's weird how they set this one up but okay just don't want to overlook it if it were available to me. While I have ya, I have a couple questions you or others might answer...
1) What's an easy solution to getting mp3's connected to this car.
2) Overnite my back end is up extremely high (about 6-8 inches) WHY? When I unlock the car I hear hissing while the back end starts lowering down to normal.
Thanks for all your help.... I love this group.

I take it you mean there is no info on easy entry/exit in the convenience menu. My '00 S500 had the feature, as does my '05; perhaps it wasn't available on the S430.

The "easy" mp3 solution is something like the Harman Kardon iDrive or the Drive+Play, using the option to connect through the FM antenna. However, you have screens and controls you'll want to hide away. See http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audio-telematics-forum/1414538-ipod-integration-kit-harman-kardon-idrive.html and Harman Kardon - Drive+Play - iPod car adaptor driveplay drive+play iPod car interface iPod interface car adaptor iPod adaptor car audio iPod car stereo iPod iPodcarstereo iPodcaraudio driveandplay drive play ipod, nano ipod in car apple

Units that broadcast FM over-the-air are generally unsatisfactory; subject to noise and poor sound quality.

The best solution is offered by the Dension Gateway 500' you may want to consider competitors such as MoBridge and iTronics, but my experience is with the Gateway 500. It feeds audio directly into the fiber optics, and the quality is superb. Unfortunately, in your car you will not get song title readouts on the COMAND unit because your D2B COMAND is not test capable; however, there is an option that lets you control song, album, artist, or playlist sorting on the iPod itself while allowing scrolling and volume control via the steering wheel. See http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audio-telematics-forum/1319829-gateway-500-most-not-ready-prime.html for my installation. Your D2B installation would not require the changes in the trunk.

The airmatic problem you describe sounds like a bad valve block, if indeed the back end is rising. Are you sure the front isn't lowering as well? If so, that could indicate other problems. In any case, it is a problem you need to have your dealer or a certified MB independent look at right away. Don't let non-certified mechanics touch your airmatic system.

This info is so handy, although I have posted it before, I'm doing it again.

First, the ECU reset procedure that Johnny7623 recommended is included in my owner's manual in the battery change instructions - along with some additional info on things that may need to be reset (it helps to read those manuals!!) However, not everything is addressed there, so here goes.

Windows, seats, mirrors, steering wheel position (easy entry/exit) and the like can be reset by running them fully in one direction, holding the switch at full travel for approximately 2 seconds (or longer), then running to the opposite limit, holding for about 2 seconds (or longer). It is not unusual to have to do this after the battery is disconnected. The positioning of many of these features is controlled by a Hall's Effect generator, a simple device that counts revolutions of a motor shaft, and it must be set to register the proper number of turns to reach both limits of travel.

Synchronizing Head Restraints:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or empty), the head restraints are no longer adjusted automatically. To resynchronize the adjustment feature, turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2, move the seat completely forward and the head restraint fully down, and hold respective buttons for approximately two seconds.

Synchronizing power windows:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or low), the windows cannot be opened or closed by the Express feature. To resynchronize the express feature, press side of power window switch to resistance point until the window is completely closed and hold for additional 2 seconds. Repeat procedure for each window. The automatic full opening and closing procedure of the windows should now be restored. (Note: This sometimes works as well for problems with manual operation of the windows, but not always).

Synchronizing sliding/pop-up roof:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or low), or if the sliding/pop-up roof is blocked during closing/opening procedure, the system has to be synchronized. To do so, turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2, move and hold switch in direction (3), until the sliding/pop-up roof is completely raised at rear, and hold for additional 1 second. If the pop-up roof simply will not open or close all the way after using this procedure, clean the tracks and lubricate them with the MB lubricant made for the purpose.

Global Synchronization of auto open/unlock (windows open/close when car is unlocked/locked):

Global synchronization synchs all of your windows and sunroof so that they all open or close by a single command (pointing the key at the IR receiver in the driver's door handle, and pushing & holding lock or unlock). Place the A/C switch on the A/C control panel in Auto, and the recirc button on. Then press the button between the temp controls and hold it until all of the windows and roof close. This should resynch them. After that, the Smart Key should open or close the windows and sunroof as well as lock or unlock the doors.

Also: Door locks are controlled from the key by radio frequency, and will operate regardless of direction the key is pointed. The auto window/sunroof features are infrared, however, and operate only if the key is pointed at the small square IR receiver in the driver's door handle. The IR range is usually less than the RF range, and can be affected by bright sunlight directly on the door handle.

Synchronizing ESP (ECU):

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or empty), the BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp may be illuminated with the engine running. Turn steering wheel completely to the left and then to the right. The BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp should go out. For more on resetting the entire ECU, see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w208-clk-class/1210257-found-ecu-reset-procedure.html.

Synchronizing remote control:

The remote control may have to be resynchronized, if the vehicle cannot be locked or unlocked. To synchronize insert electronic key in steering lock. The remote control should once again be operational."

Synchronizing Steering Column Height/Easy Exit:

Steering wheel height - basically the same procedure, but with a caution. Move your steering column down SLIGHTLY, and if you can then bring it back up to where it started (but not higher), then you need to reset the column with the simple procedure below. HOWEVER, if it goes down slightly, but will not go back up at all, do not try the reset - it probably will go fully down and not come back up! You may not be able to get into the car to drive, if that happens. Get it serviced.

Run the steering column full down, and holding the switch down for about 10 seconds after it reaches the lowest position; then run it back up fully and hold the switch up for about 10 seconds after the column reaches its upper limit of travel. You may need to do this several times. That should reset the limits in the Halls' Effect generator, and your column should function normally.

Seats (easy exit) - try running them to the limits also; however, the seats slide back in the easy exit mode only if they are pretty far forward in the first place. if they are back beyond certain limits (set by Mercedes), not sliding further back is normal operation.

Not all cars have easy exit feature, and those that do must have the option selected in the MFD (instrument cluster) menu.

What Are You Talking About Here
running them fully in one direction, What Is Them ???
(easy entry/exit) and the like can be reset by running them fully in one direction, holding the switch at full travel for approximately 2 seconds (or longer), then running to the opposite limit, holding for about 2

From your dealer, with VIN and proof of ownership. Usually free in the U.S. If you bought the car from that dealer, they have you in their system, so will usually use that as proof of ownership (since it was verified before you were put into their system).

Glad you're enjoying your new car.

1) I don't know that options are associated with keyless go; it's just one option of many that could be ordered. Your authorized dealer can pull up a Vehicle Data Card and tell you what options you have.

2) I don't completely understand your question about the trunk lid. It's probably dealt with in your owner's manual (if you don't have it, you can download an electronic version after you register - free - on the MBUSA website). You can also download a COMAND manual and a Voice Control manual from Paul Dick's site at http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsite/comand_manual.htm (see the home page for the voice control manual link).

3) You can determine whether you have the main parts of the phone system installed by referring to post (permalink) #259 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audio-telematics-forum/1313173-how-guide-cell-phone-upgrades-plug-26.html. If you do not have the MHI contact plate installed, see permalink #5 in the same string. If you do have it, all you need are the components described in post #259.

4) I do not know why your Tele-Aid equipment isn't working; except that you will not be able to use it without a subscription to the service.

5) The opening of windows with the smart ket is discussed in the owner's manual. No need to repeat here, except to say that you must point the key at the infrared receiver in the driver's door handle to use the feature. By contrast, the door locks operate on radio frequency, and you only need to be somewhere near the car.

6) No. Stay away from ebay smart keys. A little use of the forum search tool will get you more than you probably wanted to know about the keys.

PS - since you have clarified now that your car is a W220, it will have COMAND and does not use a radio code (reference post 31 above).

Hi Skylaw,
Can you please explain the Global Sync of windows and sun roof with a 2003 S55?
What do you mean by the switch between the Temperature Controls? On my model that is the Auto A/C switch (that has 3 options press up, press down, and press in) between the left and right temp switches.
Is it possible that your instructions are lightly different for this model year?
I assume you have to turn on the ignition? You didn't day so though.
I did this below and it didn't work for me.
Opened the car door and sat in the drivers seat,
Opened all the windows
Turn the ignition to ON
Pressed the Auto A/C switch IN to (to "Auto")
Pressed the recirc button ON
Pressed the Auto A/C switch IN and hold (along time) - but no windows rolled up.
What am I missing here?

any help of course would be appreciated
thanks

yeah, I didn't think that should matter though. On some forums you get an email if someone responds. Haven't figured that out yet.
Well, I fixed the problem. My Infra-red sensors in the door handles were both broke. I had to fixed the broken solder joints in the sensors. Now all is good.
Thanks though

This actually worked.

My E had this problem and I've managed to use the memory key to work. Now, it's fixed.
Thanks.

Guys please help me with this!

I disconnected my battery the other day as I was working on the car!
When a reconnected it again my car reported the usual battery disconnected errors as ABS,BAS,AIRMATIC!

But most importantly I lost my perfect steering wheel!
My steering wheel became hard!
When I start the engine it works fine for 5 seconds and then its like no power in the electronic steering wheel helper!
It was perfect before the battery disconnection.

Okay after 2 weeks I did the same thing on my S430 and yes exactly the same thing happened to me as on the S320.
The steering wheel became hard.
ABS, BAS, AIRMATIC errors after battery disconnected as well.

I cant find any corresponding information on this!
Is there anyone had experience like me?

Driver's seat won't move forward

This info is so handy, although I have posted it before, I'm doing it again.

If your seats refuse to move in one direction, try this:
1. Hold down the "M" button and move the affected section of the seat with the seat control switch in the direction opposite the direction it does NOT move. That is, if the seat won't move forward, hold the M button and move it back.
2. Release the memory button and move the control of the affected section of the seat in the direction you want it to move. Hopefully, it will now work.
3. This applies to any of the seat position adjustments.

ALSO - if your windows don't close fully with one-touch operation, and re-synching doesn't work - especially if they start going up, stop, then retract partially - lubricate the tracks with silicone spray!!

Synchronizing ESP - If the BAS, ESP and (if you have it) ABS Lights are on, or if you have a Pre-Safe warning: - these may be caused by power interruption requiring reset of the ESP, or input to it from the wheel speed sensor or steering angle sensor. The initial troubleshooting is the same for all.

If the BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp are illuminated with the engine running (and you could have a Pre-Safe warning), first turn the steering wheel completely (stop to stop) to the left and then to the right. You may have to do this two or three times. The BAS/ESP and ABS malfunction indicator lamp should go out. For more on resetting the entire ECU, see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w208-clk-class/1210257-found-ecu-reset-procedure.html and also post #4 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1675241-bsa-esp.html

Also note!! - ABS, BAS and ESP Warning and difficult steering – it could be nothing more than an ABS wheel speed sensor. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1390781-many-problems-abs-esp-airmatic-heavy.html and http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1435051-abs-bas-esp-warning-hard-steering.html and http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1538876-abs-esp-abc-do-not-work.html

Wheel speed sensor malfunctions may also cause flashing of hazard warning lights and limit power - http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1645239-hazard-light-flashes-prevents-acceleration-during.html - Further, the lights have been known to be illuminated by a bad steering angle sensor (you may also have a pull in steering in one direction or another). If the stop-to-stop procedure does not extinguish the lights, one of these sensors may need to be replaced.

ECU reset procedure: ECU adaption reset will make your car faster if it's been driven slow for a while.

1. Enter the car and close the doors. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.
5. Drive the car and you will most likely notice it's a bit more peppy

Resetting Automatic Windshield Wiper Function (with a tip of the hat to mvmiler):

First, pull and reseat your windshield wiper relays (locations are on the fuse diagram usually found in the tool compartment in your spare tire well).

With engine running and all passenger doors closed, starting at 0 turn on wipers to #3 position, then put the switch in the 0 position then put it in the auto #1 (rain sensor position) then have someone splash water on the windshield as the doors have to be closed to reset this function. Then they should function normally.

Resetting Adaptive Transmission

Turn the Key to the "on" position (the position right before you start your engine)
Press and hold your gas pedal down for like 5 seconds
Turn Key to "off" position (dont remove the key) and then release the gas pedal.
Then wait approximately 2 minutes. Your transmission will readjust/relearn your style after approximately 5 minutes of driving.
My seat would not move forward. I reset following your post by holding the M button and running the seat all the way back. It moves forward but will revert to same problem after two or three days. Can can reset it and it works but will again return to same problem. Any suggestions?
