very light foot MOST of the time. only go WFO about once a week or so(maybe less). why waste the gas and wear out the brakes for nothing, except maybe a ticket?

city 16 mpg
highway 50-60 mph 18 mpg
interstate 70+ 17 mpg
no major hills around this part of texas. but not flat as a pancake either.

fresh plugs, k&n filter. i know this is a 5000 lb brick parachute, but am still disappointed with the fuel consumption. cant believe they shove that much gas thru a modern 265 cu in motor.

on the other hand, pulling 'Tenacious,' my 5000 lb formula 24' power boat at 60 +/- 10 mpg. but it does it almost without trying and so VERY nicely. which is why i bought it. and pulling the boat out of the water on a steep wet ramp? TOTALLY EFFORTLESS AND AWESOME (in low range, of course).

Texasdanml430: Sometimes more is better. I too had an 00 430 that I traded in on my 05 500. I have found the added 37 ft. lbs. of torque 288 for 430 to 325 for 500 makes a world of difference over the same roads and hills. In places where the 430 would kick down the 500 does not, and in some areas I actually get better mileage with the 500 than I did the 430. The 500 gets better mileage at 75 than the 430 did at 65. My whole point here is when it's time to trade up, think of a 500, especially for use with towing a boat! [8D]

I also moved up to ML500, gives 20+MPG with only 600miles on it.
Cant tow yet, expect to get better than my two ML430's.
You should be doing better, need to clean/check MAF, do a hard reset [remove bat cable] we get 19-19.6MPG with the two 430's, K&N, 4301's for plugs.

well i soak my maf in isopropyl alcohol overnight every oil change (every 5-6k miles) then flush the hell out of it with carb cleaner before re-install. i THINK its clean, but ??? at 52k miles. guess i better plan for new one at these gas prices. may try the batt. disconnect/reset. thanks

City 13-14 Mpg
Highway cruising at 70-75: 18 Mpg
Highway cruising at 60-70: 19.5-20 Mpg
Highway cruising behind my wife: 22 Mpg
(She can get 23.5 Mpg in the ML320 1999)

I find the Mpg is significantly reduced in winter
Mixed driving (commuting) average 16.5 summer, 13.5 winter

Well, with our 99 ML 320 (85k miles) we get:

Average daily commuting 30 miles each way: 21-22mpg
(mixed driving)

Average on long trip (say to Florida): 24-26mpg
(tend to drive 70-75mph)

Best regards,

One quick note: the new plugs improved the 430's milage by 1-2 miles per gallon. K&N, or any other free flowing filter 1+mpg, New Continental contact 4X4 actually another 1 mpg. Of course, you need to keep the tach at 2000 to 2500 at all times! [no quick starts]

The best highway mileage so far is for a 2o mile flat run at exactly 55 MPH set with cruise.

The trip computer showed 29.9 MPG at the end of the run. That's the ML in "Hybrid" mode. Haha.
