Hello,
I am replacing the u-joints in my 111 coupe. Can I take the drive shaft to any machine shop to have them pressed in or is there something particular to the MB. I am also replacing the center bearing and rubber mount. Anything to be aware of?

Hi,really pretty example of a great looking car[8D]
Go to a drive shaft specialist, change your center bearing at the same time.Including the mount.Change the flexi disc as it is a fast moving part and it is expected to be replaced fairly often.
BUT,before you unbolt anything, mark the posistion of the center bearing.
Because, when you bolt the shafts back in they have to have a preload on the center bearing.
Some of the W111 w122 and 109's with the 3.5 had unijoints that were staked in place. This was to ensure that the drive shaft was dead accurate.A good drive shaft specialist(some truck repair outfits have god contacts in this area.)will be able to remove the unijoints and fit circlip type joints if neccesary.[:D]

Thanks for the advice. I also purchased a flex disk,
center bearing and support for my project. I read over the procedure in the factory manual but it gave no procedure on replacing the u-joints.[8D]
