Hi All,
I have a 2003 ML350 with the Inspiration Package. The carpets have some damage and I would like to replace them. Aside from the dealer (big $$$ or a junkyard, where can I get a carpet kit to match the originals?

Thanks in advance,
Tom

I was looking at OEM carpets/mats the other day.
A whole new front carpet (firewall to 3rd row footwell) is $1120.
A set of 4 mats for "Inspiration" edition is $234. That sounds reasonable if they can cover your damaged areas.

Meanwhile a two-colour set of 4 designo mats is $1230 , more if it includes leather. (I hope that comes with lubricant.) I wonder which part of a designo mat is leather.

The cargo floor carpet alone is $286, but if they cut the third row seatbelt holes for you it's $354. (That's $70 more, and you get less carpet.)

Installation of a whole front carpet would be a major operation. You could DIY if you had a spare day or two. Removing a carpet from a wrecked ML would be almost as laborious; you could probably just toss the seats back in.

Putting "custom fit auto carpet" into Google will give the non-dealer options.

It's just a matter of deciding what you want, and how much you want it.

I think the best Mat's offered for our ML are the OE all weathers. Great quality and I much prefer actual protection on the floor from the rubber. I think they look fantastic compared to carpet. I have black leather of course, so things match. I forget what I paid, maybe 240 beans.

Easy as a hose and scrub to clean. Great design.

That would be a royal PIA project. Not like those old hot rods, just unbolt it all, fix the floor rust, re-tar and lay some rug :)

Leather on the designo mats is the piping around the edges. Can't see how that tacks almost a grand onto the price of the mats. Wow. I wonder if Home Depot does cars. :p

Nice! Knowing the price of replacements, you'd have to consider deploying a mat outside for your passengers to wipe their shoes on prior to boarding.

Perhaps the leather can only be sourced from a special breed of organically-grown grass-fed cattle in the Bavarian Alps.

P.S. "designo leather is a particularly fine-grained, non-impregnated leather and is hand-stitched by experienced leather specialists." Gotta love that MB marketing BS.

Welcome to the forum. That's the best first-post of the year, IMHO.

What condition are your seats in? If the color's worn off, MB dealer techs can match the original paint. I'd suggest ringing around to see if they have one they would call a leather specialist.

Meanwhile you can try what they use to restore leather seats - Meguiars Gold Class leather/vinyl cleaner & leather conditioner.
