I have just received the wood/leather center console for my 04 CLK 500 after a long wait,

Has anyone replaced one of these before, how easy is it to do. I have the phone option installed.

I hope it looks good, the shift knob and glove box trim look great so far.

In order of removal
- gear shift cover (pulls up at ashtray end)
- ash tray (unclips from two tabs and slides out)
- centre console cover (unscrews at bottom, T20 needed)

Went to the dealer who showed me how to remove the lock from the old armrest.

Basicaly you have to pry away the cover underneath the handle lock from behind,

Then pull the whole latch assembly forward out of the armrest,

Then pull the pivot pin out to release the handle with the lock in it.

Then locate the lock and you'll see a paddle attached to the bottom of the lock mechanism.

There are three latches which hold the lock in place.

These 3 latches need to be pulled out, and broken, to allow the lock to come out, have the key inserted to enable the lock to come out.

Then reinsert in new armrest and push down to latch into the new paddle.

The paddle mechanism IS A ONE TIME USAGE component, once it is in it's there fore life unless you break the tabs!!

Pretty intuitive really!!!!
