Im renting a lift to do some work on the car. While I'm at it, I'd like to clean some rust that is building up on the muffler pipe and some brackets holding the exhaust system. Also any other parts that need cleaning.

The rust is not bad it's just surface rust from leaving the car outside (under shade) for 3 months during the rainy sumer florida days, while i prepared the garage.

What do you guys recommend for cleaning the rust and preventing it from happening?

Spray it with white vinegar with some lemon juice, let it soak and then use a wire brush. Next use hi-temp spray for anything that gets hots and rubberized undercoating for everything else.

I buy mine in a black spray paint for the exhaust. The more hidden looking the better IMO. Not sure if it available in clear
but just go to your local auto parts store and check.
