Everybody says this is easy so I feel like an idiot asking but I must, because I'm stuck. :)

I can't get this bolt out because of the bracket above doesn't provide any room to fit a tool. Driver's side in the back of cylinder 8 holding part of the throttle linkage frame.

Be gentle. :nerd

The hex bit set I have allows removal of the bit itself(if that makes sense), then an open end wrench on that. You also might find a shorter allen type wrench. Another option is a ball-end bit. There are also flexible shaft wrenches.

I have a set of these
Notice the wobble head on the long end. They allow a jaunty angle and the end still grips

They are usually called wobble head or ball end allen keys

I was just going to suggest some of those ball end allen keys. They're the only easy way to get VW TDI intakes off.

If you use the wobble head ones be sure to apply a little bit of "valve grinding compound" to the end. I use that with most allen head screw as it provides a good bite and helps to keep from destroying the allen head of the screw. Another thought is to buy some cheap-o allen wrenches at HF and cut the short end a little shorter. Put it into a vise and use a good hacksaw blade or power grinder.

Thanks, Nic, I have those but there's just not enough room. Last night as I was thinking about it I started leaning towards jerry rigging something like magic suggested, a sacrificial small piece held by a stout vice grip.

I hope I can generate enough torque as this bolt is one of the longest one in the manifold. That bracket it hold is one of the engine lift points.

Number 110 on the diagram.
