If you are trying to disconnect the ABS housing from the pot metal lock.
Than with key on position two. Push the two pot metal pins in. Pull out.

If you want to remove the key tumbler from the ABS housing.
There is a circle clip deep inside.
( Most likely the ABS housing will break.)
The replacement of the tumbler is an one time in....

aam.

I am talking about removing the key tumbler for the ABS housing. Can you please give me a more in depth guide? I can see the little groove at the end of the tumbler where you are supposed to stick a wire in, however I haven't had any luck. Also why is it likely that the housing will break?

Let me explain,

In the beginning 1989/90 first generation, there were two materials used, one was all parts made from pot metal.
(Bottom, steering lock, and housing. )

The other/ later years, ABS housing.
MB dealer may charge, ABS housing, tumbler attached, with a free master key.$$$$

Yours looks like it has been replaced, as is ABS made.
(Plastic, if you try to do anything, it breaks. )

MB recommends replacement, of tumbler be done by professional.
Like said, even when new, it is made to be installed ones.
On the pot metal, as material is stronger.
A locksmith or someone who knows... can dremel cut almost half the neck, at the right place, push on the circle clip, install new tumbler.

I think,
You got a used lock, valley key, trying to rebuild the old one?

Regards,
aam.
