2013 GLK350 2 wheel drive

My sliding cover on the center console will only open about 1-2 inches and I need to fully open it. Something has fallen down behind where the sliding cover moves down into.

How do I remove the top wood grain plastic cover over this top portion of the center console? Does that trim just "pry off" (carefully) and is held down with clips? I wanted to check first before a break this piece
Thank you for any help

You might get a hint by looking at a parts diagram of the console available at many online parts sites. Alternately, you can subscribe to MB's STAR TekInfo site for 24 hours at a cost of $19 which is probably far cheaper than having a tech solve the problem.

That is the only one I have found. Maybe your parts department has a breakdown for your version. Sorry.

Ok.... since I couldn't find an answer here, In Alldata, on the web, etc... I decided to just dive into it. After checking it out and not seeing any screws I guessed it was clipped in which turns out to be correct. Here's how you do it and it will take you about 3 minutes

1. Remove the small trim plate around temp dials on dash near the bottom/center.
2. You will find two small T20 torx screws at the bottom. Remove them both
3. Remove temp assy and set over to side. No need to disconnect anything
4. Using a plastic trim removal tool, lightly/carefully pry around the front corners of the plastic/woodgrain cover.
5. It pops up in the front end and slides forward to remove the panel.

I found that a gum package had blocked the cover from openly and it was easily removed.

6. Now re-install the panel by sliding the back end in first since it has plastic hooks on that end and pop it back down in place.
7. Reinstall the rest and your almost finished
8. Drink a cold one of your choice.
9. Repeat step 8 as needed :thumbsup::beerchugr:

Glad your problem was solved so easily. I would suggest that a copy your post be placed in a separate DIY Sticky as has been done in the W163 forum. Much easier for searchers to find than guessing at the key words to use in the forum search option. What does the moderator think?

Hopefully MB will note this problem and install some fine bristle materiel, (like they
used to have on side windows), to keep stuff from sliding into oblivion.
I lost a turnpike receipt to the hungry console. Lesson learned.

My brand new GLK cover worked fine on the test drive. When I went back to pick it up, it did not open. Apparently, the guy who washed the car for pick up had his building access card on there and it slid under.

Pretty common I think. Poor design.

Thank you very much for the trouble shooting and solution. It worked like a charm for the same problem in my 2014 GLK. I never would have been brave enough to try and pry off that trim without knowing it would come off. It took a bit more force than I expected and I would have quit for fear of breaking the plastic. Removed the obstruction and it now works like it's suppose to. The only thing I would add is that the clips on the trim plate in step one are in the top corners and along each side near the bottom. There is also one (or two ?) more along the bottom edge between the corners and one or two more along the top edge. I started from a top corner. Thanks again for your post.
