I have a 1981 380SL and was trying to remove the arm rest on the drivers side. One screw is visible but I cannot figure out how to disengage the second screw (closer to door's edge). It looks like it may be clipped in place. Does anyone have any suggestions? Andrew

The old "can't get the armrest off" problem..

If the armrest is anything like my 1978 SLC, the armrest stays attached to the trim panel and is screwed from the hidden, internal side. Basically you have to unbolt the top end near the door handle (underneath the chrome cover), remove all the bits of chrome around the edges, clip off the bottom of the door panel and lift it up paralel with the window and the whole panel will come off. On my car, the armrest is held by a single screw at the rear end. It mystified me for a while the first time too! My old 280SE had a totally different system that meant it could come off without dismantling the whole thing. Hope this works!
