I need to remove the brown, plastic console cover on my 1991 190E so I can tinker with the electric window switches. Only 1 window works now.

I plan on tinkering with them: wiping them off and spraying them with carbon tet or some similar solvent to get them working again.

Anyone removed the brown, plastic console cover before? I would appreciate directions on how best to do it.

If all you want to do is work on the switches you don't have to take that off. Just use a small pick tool and pry them up.

Airboy is correct.

Otherwise, if you need better access, just remove the shift surround, the piece of wood.
But be careful, it cracks easily and replacement parts are quite expensive.

I had to do that to reattach my warning light switch. Its a pain in the butt putting the plugs back in b/c they only pull out about an inch. And be very carefull about the wood paneling around it, my cracked into 3 pieces [], but i glued it and now it looks fine[]
